"I even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time -- namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be." -- Joseph Campbell

The 11th house similarly has a shadow side which Steven Forrest explains eloquently in his book "The Inner Sky." An unsuccessful navigation of 11th house terrain may have us " ... seek friends at random. Friends 'happen to us'. We find ourselves involved in a network of associates and peers who contribute nothing to our life strategy. They simply take up our time."
The idea behind the 11th house which Forrest encourages is to first pick your goals and then come the friends. "Friends" in the 11th house are a distinct breed from your 7th house intimates, the idea being that these people come together to forward goals through mutually beneficial work relationships. It's a different kind of intimacy, clearly. The sign on the cusp as well as planets, natal or by transit, will cue you into the nature of your support group. These are the types of people or the quality of energy that will provide a supportive network. We are never isolated and while this can be a bit overwhelming, we might as well as jump on the ride and use it consciously for greater creative visibility. Also known as the house of hopes and dreams, the 11th house reminds us that rarely do we reach the top by ourselves.
