Every year on the birthday an astrologer draws up what is called a Solar Return chart for the exact moment when the Sun returns to its natal position, with the chart being set for the location where the birthday was spent. This gives a picture of the tone of the year ahead and an indication of where energy will be focussed and problems will lie.

His Solar Return is very mixed as to be expected with the present complicated influences up above.
A hard working, health-focused 6th house Sun trines the Solar Return Midheaven as does Jupiter Uranus in Aries from the 2nd. This suggests some progress and achievements. But there is also an 8th house Saturn Mars which points to business/joint finances giving him major aggravation – bank, global economics and the like.
The Uranus Jupiter opposition Mars Saturn square an 11th house Pluto could also indicate a major power struggle with the legislature and indeed polarised attitudes to him out amongst the voting populace becoming more extreme. They love him or loathe him. He’s also got an uncertain Neptune conjunct the Return Ascendant which will give him an evasive, impractical or mysterious image for the year ahead. It suggests a lack of confidence about how to put himself across in public.
The Solar Return Moon hovers on the cusp of the 4th hinting that family is his support system but since the Moon trines an 8th house Mars Saturn he’s also experiencing a lack of emotional support from close partners.
A 7th house Mercury is heavily emphasised being square the Midheaven and Moon/Nadir – so he’ll be talk, talk, talking though at times going round in circles (Moon Mercury). An 11th house North Node suggests lack of plans for the longer term.
His relationship to Michelle is having some sinking moments – at the moment through August and again in January 2011 as transiting Neptune squares their composite Mars. With a hint of an upheaval as transiting Pluto is sextile the composite Uranus from mid August to mid October this year.
On his Solar Arc Directions he’s got tr Uranus opposition his Solar Arc Sun from Aug 14th till early Sept 2010 and then again March and Nov 2011 which is jolting and jarring so upsets are to be expected. This is especially true in his case since his Sun natally is square Neptune; so tr Uranus is also hitting the highly strung, nervy square to Solar Arc Neptune in Nov/Dec this year as well. Though he’ll be less visibly angry this coming year. Last year’s Solar Return had an emphasised 7th house Mars which over-rode his typical no-drama-Obama approach.
