Over the last couple of weeks we have been looking at the change styles of each of the signs. Love it or hate it, change is part of the everyday and something which we can't avoid. But how do we learn to deal with and manage change in our lives? We can take a clue from our opposite sign.
During times of change and crisis, we often sink into the shadow or clichéd side of our own sign rather than using its' strengths to deal effectively with whatever is happening. For example, Aries may run around in circles starting new projects in the hope of putting out spot fires, Taurus may simply refuse to budge, Cancer may retreat to her shell and Pisces will just look to escape by any means. As with all things astrological, the extent to which you fall into shadow behaviour is based on your overall chart compilation and your free will. Regardless of which camp you fall into, there will always be some points in your life when you feel out of control and unconsciously slip into the not so sunny side of your sign. At this point, it pays to have a good hard look at your polar opposite and what you can learn from it.
The sign which opposes yours in the zodiac has strengths which can help you overcome this shadow behaviour. As this sign will have many things in common with your Sun sign, its' strengths can help overcome the weaknesses of yours.
The modality will be the same. If your sign is a cardinal sign, ie with initiating energy, so too will be your opposite. Likewise if you are a fixed sign, so will be your opposite... and so on. In this way, when you use the lessons of your polar opposite, the energy you are using is not unfamiliar to you. You are not being asked to act in a way which you are not comfortable. If your Sun is in a mutable or flexible sign, you will not need to learn to act in a fixed manner in order to deal with change.
Elemental pairings are harmonious. Yin signs are paired with other yin signs and yang with yang. Feminine, inclusive and introverted energy is matched with like... as are the driving extroverted energy of the masculine signs. Water opposes Earth and Air opposes Fire. The emotional reaction of Water can be grounded and given substance by Earth, whilst the pure practicality of Earth is softened and given engagement by Water. The creative spark of Fire is socialised by Air, whilst the ideas of Air are given motion by Fire.
We will examine the pairings in my next post:
Aries- Libra
Taurus- Scorpio
Gemini- Sagittarius
Cancer- Capricorn
Leo- Aquarius
Virgo- Pisces
