Happy Birthday, Planet Earth! Earth is passing a milestone this week, the start of a new 26000-year cycle — we could say it’s her big, brand-new birthday. This is exciting, and a shift is already taking place in us, a new wave of consciousness. Because of the length of the cycle, we’ve been experiencing this shift for at least 200 years, and it will go on for another 200.
This would blend in with the scenery were it not for Uranus and Pluto, the flagship planets of 2012. They have been moving into an intense contact since about 2000, and in 2008, we began to feel its full effect. This opened the window to deep and rapid change, and in some respects we need it. As we continue through this process, what do we need in terms of tools and focus to use this great opportunity? Let’s Get Beyond the Downside
There is a great deal of talk about 2012, but it wouldn’t feel like “2012" without these planets. If you have been feeling a lot of anxiety and fear, you’re not alone. When we are shaken out of the structures we have come to rely on, it’s hard to envision what the world will be like without them. We don’t know what to create when everything is shifting. Who will we be tomorrow? What will the world be like in five years?
We can’t answer the questions that plague us with our mind, but our spirit knows the solutions. Through our connection with timeless wisdom, our inner knowing, we can and will make it through, joyfully thriving in a world less encumbered by unsustainable living patterns. Who knows what we’ll dream into being? We can’t be sure yet, but each of us has a role in the creative process.
As we lift ourselves out of the old reality, we have a responsibility to ourselves, each other, and those less aware than us, to spread light — to remove fear and redirect its energy toward the light. We can take a stand against fear. Stamp Out Fear
Energetically, we can learn to manage fear. Fear has no place in a healthy energy system — it blocks energy flow and begins a downward backward spiral that drains life. When we feel fear in its many masks (anxiety, worry, depression, sadness, helplessness, etc.), we can push it out. All we need is a firm “no” to the fear, and a “yes” to the energy of peace and joy.
Once we have access to our peaceful center, our personal path to the light proceeds more quickly. We also approach all circumstances more openly, with curiosity and delight. We see the irony of the universe and the beauty in its efficiency and timing, so that many goals are accomplished easily. We see the purpose and perfection behind events and become a center of stability for ourselves and others.
We experience more and more:
feeling our wholeness and Oneness with All

resilience (strength + flexibility)
These are among the ways that we can experience Uranus’s square to Pluto. We can learn to access these higher vibration states consistently. The soul sees the opportunity here and revels in it, even if our mind-body complex lags behind. How can we not take advantage of this great opening to find love-joy-peace?
What Can We Do to Access Peace?
Inner growth occurs naturally as long as we are alive, but we can maximize the growth curve and move away from pain more quickly. We can:
Meditate/center ourselves. Use tools that help us hear the universe’s messages: Astrology, Tarot, etc. Do the gratitude practice: Complete the sentence, “I am grateful for . . .” as many times as possible. Forgive where there is conflict. Limit contact with activities, people, and organizations that undermine our peace. Seek the guidance of others. Draw a supportive community around us.
In the moment, we can:
Dance it out.
Go for a walk.
Talk about it.
Go to bed earlier.
Focus on what we can control.
Remember good times and relive them in our mind.
Ask for a hug.
Look for the opportunities in life’s challenges.
We feed our soul by feeling our deep connection with all things. This is already there, we just need to become more aware of it.
If we look at our life pre-2008 as compared to now, most of us have more time to live than we did before. We have time to do the things that we talked about wanting to do then. We are unleashed to journal, draw, paint, write, compose, perform, construct, muse, dream, rest, do nothing, play, run in the waves, observe the planets, weave energy and grow as never before. So let’s celebrate the opening of unity consciousness for all of humanity with our own first/next step on the path of joyful creativity. Happy birthday, Planet Earth!
