So many people I meet are searching for the answer to one question: What is my purpose? In these changing times, the one sure way of making the best of the times is to love yourself enough to find your real purpose in life.
That purpose can be found in your family, your friends, your profession, your creative passion, your humanitarian vision, your spirituality. The most important thing to know about your purpose is that you have to actually DO it, not just think about it.
This dreamer has often thought about what she wants to do now that she’s retired. She has many hobbies and she devotes her time to causes she believes in. But still . . . what can she alone offer?
The Dream: I am standing in front of a strip mail in my neighborhood that is being remodeled. The stores in the area that is being remodeled are vacant and waiting for new tenants. Someone tells me that the shop that I am opening here will serve ‘chicken and dressing’.
Later, I re-dream the dream and another woman is there instead of me. Now she is opening the ‘chicken and dressing’ shop. She questions the people there about this, as if hesitant, and they reconfirm that she is opening a ‘chicken and dressing’ shop.
She had this strange little dream, and when asked what she thought it meant, didn’t feel it said much to her. This is where knowledge of symbolic language comes in, because we so often forget to look at our dreams metaphorically. We have to dig for the meaning of each symbol before we get the real story.
Her associations with the strip mall are: (1) in reality, this mall is being re-modeled, and (2) a place of commerce is undergoing transformation.
Her association with ‘chicken and dressing’ is that this was the family Sunday meal when she was growing up on the farm. It was a special treat every Sunday, nourishing and delicious. The dressing was made of stale bread – and leftover vegetables - so it’s about recycled food.
The fact that she dreamed it twice indicates that she is becoming conscious of the need to open this shop. The other woman is the aspect of her own psyche which is committed to this purpose, this project.
But the ego is still unsure. What exactly is this dream about? How does it help this woman discover her purpose?
After some discussion, the dreamer realized that she often thought about teaching children how to cook nutritious, simple but delicious meals so they can do well in school and stay healthy. But like so many of us, her thoughts stayed just that. Thoughts! And thoughts don’t necessarily manifest unless we make it happen. So we just keep re-visiting the thought, and perhaps it disappears again, or perhaps it takes root in us.
The dream indicates that the idea has taken root and has gotten to the point where it’s time to manifest it. This dream brought the dreamer a glimpse of her future purpose. Now it’s up to her to decide if she wants to manifest that purpose or let it drop by the wayside.
This is happening within many people today. We think about how we can help the world. But Thinking isn’t Doing! We need inspiration. That’s where dreams come in. A dream organizes your thoughts and feelings around the issue, and then can help you energize your vision, your self-confidence and your purpose. A dream can encourage you to manifest your dream.
The dream is your private doorway to your own unique soul. And it is there within the soul that you’ll find your life’s purpose. Don’t be afraid to explore!
Until next time,
