Cancer Solar Eclipse:
This Cancer New Moon is a partial solar eclipse, the third and therefore most important of this series of eclipses. The Cancer solar eclipse occurs on July 1, 2011 at 1:54 am PDT/ 4:54 am EDT/ 8:54 am GMT and won’t be seen except in southern Africa and Antarctica. This is the first eclipse in a new series of eclipses, so it marks a new beginning. The time since Summer Solstice is really part of this eclipse energy. What’s been going on in your life since Solstice? Read it symbolically. The Sun hanging in the sky for 3 days between these eclipses emphasizes the seasonal message of fruitful life and bounty and blessings. Despite various world-wide crises, we need to stay grounded in the Earth’s energy, whose present story is that of the Sacred Marriage of Heaven and Earth. Stay tuned to this story and you’ll discover the new story being born in you.
This Cancer New Moon is also a solar eclipse, making it a more intense new beginning than a regular new Moon. Cancer, whose guardian spirit is the Moon herself, is the sign of the primeval oceans, the Great Mother of Life who gives us birth. Cancer comprises the mysterious realm of the collective unconscious, all the memories of the past life of our species and our planet. Out of this memory mix we each receive an emotional body that gives us a form to incarnate in. Cancer is the call of our emotional body, of the psychic life of the soul. The Cancer Moon nurtures that form of ours, wanting what’s best for us. Wanting us to use our gifts and live our divine blueprint.
It is unusual to have three eclipses in a row, and as we know from number symbolism, three is the number of process, of becoming. The first two eclipses occurred in the signs of the Mind – our rational Gemini Mind and our intuitive Sagittarius Mind. These first two eclipses called us to birth a new Mind, a more cosmic Mind which understands that we are evolving to a new form of human being – a possible human that will work with others instead of warring with others, a Mind that balances left and right brains, masculine and feminine consciousness. Then we add the third mind of spiritual awareness. This new triadic Mind is so necessary if we are going to come to a new birth this Cancer solar eclipse.
What we had to see through were old thought patterns (Gemini) and beliefs (Sagittarius) which narrowed our perspective on life and kept us stuck in a paradigm that is no longer viable. If we have wiped clean the doors of perception, then new vision is inevitable, with the Solstice Cancer Sun making a creative aspect to Neptune in Pisces, opening us to visionary probabilities. If we, as the Cosmic Child, are to be born, what stories are we dreaming? What stories is the cosmos dreaming for us and in us? Astrology is one way for the cosmos to remind us of what we once knew.
Since ancient times, the primeval Ocean was the source of Wisdom and Life. Just as the great Goddess Aphrodite arose out of the ocean’s depths, so we too arise out of the waters of the womb, innocent and full of Spirit. We can be born again this solar eclipse, but this time it is a conscious birth, a chosen birth out of the Cosmic Womb. The Cosmic Story is asking us to evolve as a species, to take life here on our precious Earth to the next level.
The new Moon solar eclipse forms a grand cross with the cardinal energies we’ve been dealing with since last summer, energies that harken back to the 60s. Yes, that was the new birth that began it all, and now this eclipse is going to re-charge our emotional bodies with that dynamic energy of change and revolution. It is a new birth, with a single purpose.
A grand cross is just that: at least 4 planets in signs that are 90* apart from each other around a circle. Five planets at this new Moon are in cardinal, pioneering, initiating, action–oriented signs, the four signs that signal the change of seasons: Uranus in Aries’ Spring Equinox, Sun/Moon in Cancer’s Summer Solstice, Saturn in Libra’s Autumn Equinox and Pluto in Capricorn’s Winter Solstice. They lie at the quarter turnings of the Wheel of the Year. These three outer planets poke and prod at the Sun/Moon, energizing it with deep collective, universal and evolutionary energies, energies that are shaping this new story water we’re birthing for the world.
At the new Moon, our solar consciousness and lunar unconscious are at one. They’re focused on the same thing, in this case on Cancer’s structuring of our emotional body, a new emotional body for each of us and for the planet. Our emotional body is concerned with security, family, rootedness, nurturing, being, love – the intangibles of the heart. The things that make life worth living. Our feelings and imagination, Cancer’s gifts, are the keys to understanding the emotional body and its needs.
So use this powerful new Moon to re-birth yourself. A new day is dawning.
Until next time,
Sweet Dreams!
