To continue to grow and live life to the fullest, we have to continue learning all through our lives. What happens when a dream shows us learning something new?
I’m up at G. College with my parents and kids. I’m talking with another student’s parents, and I interpret the father’s dream for him. Then I realize that Mom and M. are both in school with me. Mom tells me she’s studying Religion. M has to go off to class and I tell him I’ll see him later.
As I stand there, enjoying being back at school, a red bird flies down my blouse.
This dreamer got her Masters at G. College. In taking her inner ‘parents and kids’ back there, she is taking what she learned both into the future (her kids) and back into the past (her parents). When she interprets the other father’s dream, perhaps she’s trying to discover how to bring what she’s learned into the world, since the Father represents our bridge to ‘making it’ in the world.
Our inner parents symbolize our old worldview, since we learn how the world works from our parents. The fact that this dreamer’s mother is studying religion suggests that her inner nurturing resources are turning to the spiritual aspects of life. How can she nurture herself spiritually as well as concretely?
Our inner children symbolize our potentials for the future. M is this dreamer’s eldest son, someone who is studying finance in college. Finance and business is not this dreamer’s strong suit, and so the fact that her inner son is there at her school suggests that she has to learn how to be more conscious of both her finances and her way of doing business.
So far, so good! It all makes sense. Until we look at the red bird that flies down her blouse. What is the dream trying to convey?
When asked, the dreamer said that the bird’s fluttering wings came right over her heart. Birds usually symbolize a spiritual message or insight. She associated the red bird with a cardinal, which symbolizes a renewed sense of self and a new vitality (red). This is certain what the dreamer experienced. And the fact that it flutters near her heart says that this new insight into her life, coupled with a renewed sense of spiritual nurturing, is bringing her heart into her new projects.
Dreams offer us hope when we aren’t sure about how we’re handling life. A dream like this can show us that we are moving forward in our life, even when we don’t think we are.
Until next time,
Sweet Dreams!
