One of the most magical dreams you can have is a dream about dolphins. They are so joyous and fun and usually put a smile on your face. Here’s a happy dream for you.
I am in a community pool where dolphins leap and play. As I play with them, an elephant rises up out of the water underneath me, but it doesn’t hurt me.
Water is associated with feelings as well as the unconscious. A pool is a man-made construct where we get to play and enjoy the waters. So a pool could symbolize the personal unconscious. A community pool then might represent a community’s unconscious; each tribe or community has a certain way of dealing with life as well as shadow ways of dealing with things. So this pool might represent the community that this dreamer finds herself in-her friends and companions.
And what a pool it is. It’s full of dolphins! Besides being playful, dolphins are sensitive to feelings, since they receive information through the water and through their bodies. Symbolically, dolphin is a psychopomp, a messenger of the gods and a guide of souls. These dolphins want to let this dreamer know that it’s time to take a breath and be happy.
The surprise in the dream is the elephant. Elephants are so big they usually can’t be hidden in a pool. And yet this one emerges out of the waters. Elephants, besides being strong and patient, represent power, success and wisdom, like the Hindu god Ganesha. And because of their long trunks, their sense of smell is important.
Both these animals use the senses of sound and smell to give them a picture of what is happening around them. This dreamer needs to pay attention to her senses and the messages they bring her.
And finally, elephants represent the wisdom of the body and sexuality. Perhaps this dreamer needs to be more playful with her sexuality.
Until next time,
Sweet Dreams!
