Explore Your Dreams: Everyone Is Having a Baby!

Dreams are messages from the unconscious.  Sometimes they let us know that something is going on before we are consciously aware of it.  Dream can be prophetic in that the unconscious ‘sees’ where our life is heading before the ego does. 

Dreams can tell us what’s literally going on physically, mentally and emotionally.  When women dream about having babies, sometimes it’s because they are pregnant.  Often women dream about having babies when there is no chance of having one in reality.  So we look at the dream symbolically.  Here’s a baby dream a woman had.

My daughter, my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law are all pregnant and going into labor. My daughter has her baby in the ocean.  It is a girl and she is beautiful and quite big for a newborn.  My mother-in-law’s baby is cute and funny.  My sister-in-law isn’t happy with her baby.  But I think all three babies are adorable.

This woman’s dream could be a dream of an impending pregnancy in the family.  Three certainly represents the energy of process, and the three ladies could represent someone being pregnant in reality. Her mother-in-law is too old to have a child.  She and her sister-in-law are definitely entering late middle-age and don’t intend to have any more children.  Her daughter could be the one who’s pregnant but she isn’t.  Since no one is pregnant, we can look at the dream as a symbolic picture of the dreamer herself.

This dreamer is certainly pregnant with new life and creativity in some way.  And it has to do with the family, since all three women are in her extended family.  The clue might be with her daughter, since she is closest to the dreamer through biology and love.  A daughter can often symbolize another aspect of a dreamer, a part of her psyche which is very concrete and yet is a mixture of her old character and the new life she’s integrated with her husband.  So this daughter is an evolution of the dreamer’s original personality.  It is the daughter who has the baby in the ocean, so there must be some connection with the collective unconscious.  Perhaps this new life – and since it’s a girl it represents a new feeling or belief about life – comes from our collective longing for a better world.  Perhaps the dreamer has is taking on a new role in her husband’s family that might be both unexpected and yet important, spiritual and yet concrete.

The mother-in-law is a spiritual person while the sister-in-law is more concerned with the outer world and her status, so these women can represent energies that contribute or detract from the dreamer’s new perspective.  The dream indicates that while a part of the dreamer’s new role (the daughter’s beautiful baby) is proceeding well and she is happy with it, the more spiritual part of her feels happy and maybe even giddy (the baby is funny) while the more conventional side of her (the sister-in-law) might not feel comfortable about it.   She needs to see how her role within the entire family structure is changing and what she wants to do about it.
