Virgo is the sign of the Virgin. In ancient times, when the zodiac was first imagined, to be a virgin meant a woman who belonged to herself—and not to a man. It had nothing to do with being sexually active or not. Rather, virginity was a matter of your attitude to life. The purity of Virgo has to do with being open and receptive to life.

The essential task for Virgo is to unite our body, mind and spirit so that we become who we incarnated to be. We give birth to our inner Spirit. This integration comes through self-knowledge—knowing who we are and who we are not. It has a lot to do with self-acceptance as well. Are we capable of self-love and complete acceptance of who we are? Virgo asks us to give that love and acceptance to ourselves, instead of patriarchy’s twisting of Virgo’s gift into self-criticism and impossible perfectionism.
And in accepting ourselves, we discover that we want to be of service to the world. Virgo’s need for order comes from her desire for perfection—not a perfection that meets outer standards, but an inner perfecting of our soul’s purpose. Virgo’s journey to perfection comes from humility—our ability to see ourselves and know ourselves and still love ourselves, despite our imperfections. Virgo’s ability to see what’s really there while at the same time holding onto the vision of who she might become gives her the desire and will to grow into her potential.
Virgo rules over the harvest season, when things come to fruition. Spend time quieting the mind, going within and listening to what your Spirit has to say about your life during this Virgo New Moon. And then plant your wish for continuing growth and self-awareness.
