Well, well, well. It's time for the ol' 'out with the old, in with the new'! This includes getting rid of all the stale energies that have taken up residence inside you over the last 12 months.
Try this keen method for removing the dross in order to make way for the dreams:
Firstly, calm and collect yourself: Inhale deeply by taking a full breath in through your mouth, breathing in fresh, clean, healthy air, as well as natural light. As you inhale, bring your breath all the way down to your belly, allowing the air and light to fill your entire body, head to toe. Since you have only breathed in positive Chi, allow it to absorb all the negative karma you've swallowed, including all those who you have not yet forgiven for transgressions or grievances.
Take all these frustrations and episodes of ill health, as well as any unlucky Chi, and let it be absorbed by the big, beautiful breath of light now traveling through your body. When you exhale, do so in nine portions -- eight short puffs and one prolonged exhalation. Breath out all the junk as you visualize it leaving your body in puffs of black smoke.
THE SIX-STAGE ENERGY IMPROVEMENT METHOD
Now you are ready to visualize your body as segmented into six sections. Inhale energy, fresh breath and light into each section as you see light turn into the following colors, all while intoning the associative sounds:
1. Inhale and see white light traveling from your soles to your knees while intoning "Om."
2. Inhale and see red light traveling from your knees to your hips while intoning "Ma."
3. Inhale and see yellow light traveling from your hips to your waist while intoning "Ni."
4. Inhale and see green light traveling from your waist to your throat while intoning "Pad."
5. Inhale and see blue light traveling from your throat to your middle forehead while intoning "Me."
6. Inhale and see black light traveling from your middle forehead to the crown of your head while intoning "Hum."
This same exercise -- and the perfectly positive results it manifests -- will not only give your old and expired Chi the heave, but will also help you develop your intuition more deeply. In addition, it will also bring you opportunities for improved spiritual growth, as well as good health overall! Health, wisdom, fortune, luck and abundance now flow all through your body. And if that's not the single best way to begin this next New Year, I don't know what is!
Okay, Feng Shui fashionistas. It's time for a handy little reference guide you can keep on hand all throughout this brand new year. Make sure that what's on your back puts you in front of everyone else!
If you're looking for a bonus, a raise in salary or just trying to boost the balance in your bankbook, wear *red*! Red is _the_ color associated with money and wealth, and it also carries a bonus of its own: It'll make you look really hot.
*Black* and *purple* are also abundance attractors, so don't leave them out when you're gearing your dress for pay day. If you do decide to wear purple, be sure it's a color that comes from the red hue group, not the blue one. In fact, black and purple make a nice couture combo that can help rake in the dollars.
If you're focused on any aspect of your health, you definitely want to go *green* or *blue*! Greens and blues promote inner peace and a sense of clarity, and are considered to be the two greatest stress-reducing colors in the spectrum. Wearing anything green or blue -- or even blending the two -- can be equivalent to spending an hour practicing warrior, down dog, et al.
If you find you need to concentrate more and be distracted less, wear *yellow*. Just be careful to change your clothes once you're ready for a little rest since it's such a stimulating color. If you're a student and are heading towards your next exam, look to yellow to bring rays of hope to your next grade.
Purple is also the color associated most with spirituality, awareness, enlightenment and intuition. (If you're wearing purple as you read this, then clearly you knew this fact already!) This color activates your ability to delve deeply within yourself in order to find balance outside yourself. Listen to your inner voice and discover why purple is so popular among clergy!
Finally, *orange* simply makes you happy ... although you shouldn't wear too much, or you'll be bouncing off the walls. The next time you need a little spring in your step, try wearing this summery color that's sure to make you smile.
Off you go into your intentional New Year -- dressed for success!
It's January: Flu season officially begins -- at least around my house it does ... and around the houses of other friends and family as well.
January is the month when I get this question the most: 'Ellen, are there any all-natural ways to prevent getting the flu?'
Although many viruses are often referred to as 'flu,' only viral attacks that involve fever, fatigue, coughs, colds and muscular/joint aches actually fall under the influenza umbrella. There are some very effective all-natural remedies that promise to proactively prohibit the flu from straining you, especially where the use of immune-enhancing essential oils are concerned. Do be aware that these holistic treatments are mainly aimed at improving and/or raising your immunity levels, and are also capable of combating the virus should it slip by these preventative first lines of defense.
Try to incorporate an immune-boosting bath into your regular hygiene routine. Add the following true essential oils (in the recommended dosages) to your next warm bath, and be sure to soak for at least 20 minutes:
Thyme essential oil: four drops
Tea tree essential oil: eight drops
Lavender essential oil: five drops
After this immunity-enhancing bath, consider extra protection against the flu virus by adding two drops of tea tree oil and three drops of lavender oil to a tablespoon of olive oil. Massage the blended oil into your abdominal area. All these oils are considered the gold standard of bacteria-busters from nature's fragrant pharmacy, while also being at the top of the class among anti-virals, anti-fungals and, of course, anti-bacterials.
One last proactive measure you can take is to create a spray using the thyme, tea tree and lavender essential oils. Add five drops of each of these to an atomizer filled with spring or distilled water, then spray around your bedroom before settling into bed for the night.
Each of these methods will help support a whole and healthy immune system, in the comfort of either your own bathtub or bed. Banish the flu blues this winter by going green with medicine from your mother -- Mother Nature!
Uh-oh. Here come those credit card bills from your last few holiday shopping sprees. Throwing caution to the wind seemed like the only thing to do at the time. But now, it's time to pay that stinkin' piper.
But what with?
I hear ya!
So, how about a little Feng Shui money cure that carries results that are even bigger than the blossoming interest rates on your credit card. That's right, this next cure attracts cash -- while also inviting opportunities to save your own hide from foaming-at-the-mouth creditors.
But first, you'll need a few things to carry out this age-old method. Get yourself a piggybank or similar container to store your money in, keeping in mind that whatever you use must be stored under your bed. You'll also need a new red pen -- bought deliberately for this purpose -- as well as red paper to be used for labelling. You'll also need a piece of red cloth larger than your piggybank/container to keep this bottom line from touching the ground. Lastly, you'll need two round mirrors, each approximately three inches in diameter.
On any day, between the auspicious hours of 11am to 1pm, breathe deeply -- preferably using the 'inhale-exhale' method detailed in this month's 'Healthy Day Shui.' As you inhale deeply and hold this breath, write 'Great Wealth Accumulator' on one side of the red label with the red pen. On the other side of the label, sign your name. Attach this label to your piggybank/container with the signature side on the inside, facing the bank.
Place the red cloth underneath your bed, directly where your writing hand usually rests while you sleep. Place one of the round mirrors on the cloth with the reflective side facing up, as if pointed at the ceiling. Place the bank atop this mirror sitting on the red cloth.
Here's where it gets a little tricky: Affix the other mirror, reflective side downward, to the frame of your bed, just above where the bank rests.
Every day for 27 consecutive days, collect one coin of the same denomination (a quarter, a dime, a nickel -- you choose!) and place it in the bank. If during the course of the day more coins of that same denomination come into your possession, bring them home and put them in the bank. It's very important to remember that none of these coins may be spent during this 27-day period.
Once the 27 days have passed, you may move this bank to the Feng Shui 'Wealth' area of your main floor, or even in your bedroom. Then go ahead and breath easily, because even when you're not paying attention, this money magnet will continue to collect money for you.
Now go accumulate!
The new year is such a perfect time to break from the past and fill our lives with fresh outlooks, desires and dreams. In fact, the sesame seeds and hazelnuts folded into this vegetable pate symbolize the new life waiting around every corner at the start of this new year. Release all the old pain and promise to cook up some new adventures, for this year promises to be absolutely, positively delicious ... for you and all of yours!
NEW YEAR PATE
1 cup hazelnuts
2/3 cups sesame seeds
1 8 oz. package of cream cheese
2 cloves fresh garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons minced fresh sage
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup milk
Sea salt and white pepper
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place the hazelnuts and sesame seeds on separate baking sheets and lightly roast in the oven for five to seven minutes. When the hazelnuts are cooled, rub off the skins. Grind the hazelnuts and sesame seeds together until they are finely chopped.
In another small bowl, mix the cream cheese, garlic, sage, oil, salt and pepper with the nut/seed mix. Blend well. Add the milk, then chill in ramekins until set.
Simply divine. Just like you!
Two words: motion sickness!
Whether this is the month you travel to exotic ports of call, or you just have to get back into the grind by hopping aboard planes, trains and automobiles, travel or motion sickness can affect more than just your queasy tummy.
Most people believe that motion sickness starts in the stomach, but in fact it's the constant jarring of the semicircular canals in the inner ear that causes all those balance and bleeeeechhhh problems. The following are a few tried-and-true remedies to make your trip go oh so smoothly, no matter your destination.
At the first sign of any sort of sickness, take a metal or wire brush and run it over the backs of your hands, especially in the prime acupressure area between your thumb and index finger. By placing pressure on the web of skin between those two fingers, you may stave off motion sickness for at least a quarter of an hour, if not longer.
Keep that brush handy, as it's also believed that if you briskly brush the ring and pinky (fourth and fifth) fingers of each hand -- paying special attention to the knuckles -- you can feel right and ready to go again in as little as 15 minutes.
While you're doing so much healing with your hands, pull and pinch the skin of your wrist, dead center and about an inch from the palm of your hand. Alternate this exercise with each wrist until you can safely wave goodbye to dizziness and nausea.
Finally, don't forget peppermint tea and/or ginger ale while trying to avoid air sickness. And of course, taking capsules of powdered ginger beforehand may well make all this advice moot. Woot!
