Are you wracking your brain trying to figure out what to give that someone special this year? Try a different approach and give them a gift that’s the total opposite of what they think they want.

ARIES

Rams have a hidden yearning for something soft and seductive, or with a spiritual sentiment. A cozy hat and scarf, candles for the bath or a book on healing will bring them happiness this holiday.

TAURUS

Taurus (though they’ll never admit to it) sometimes fantasizes about being a pro athlete, so a competitive videogame, tickets to a sporting event or a travel voucher will light them up this season.

GEMINI

Gemini doesn’t need any more books, DVDs or gizmos. What they’ll really cherish is sensuous body lotions, scented bath oils or an appointment for a luxurious pedicure and manicure.

CANCER

Cancer will be enchanted with a gift that feeds their mind -- perhaps a biography or a set of novels. They would also appreciate a challenging board game.

LEO

Leo likes glitter, but as an alternative they’ll be touched by a gift that reminds them of their childhood, such as a teddy bear, a classic item from their era, or a cuddly blanket.

VIRGO

Virgo will ask for sensible presents -- but ignore that. Give them something beautiful and expensive, be it a unique antique item, an exotic fragrance or an exquisite piece of art.

LIBRA

Though they might not know it, Libra would actually appreciate something fully functional as opposed to aesthetically pleasing. How about a top-of-the-line steamer, an easy-to-use juicer or a brand-new toolbox?

SCORPIO

Scorpio tends to dress in dark colors all the time, so this year put them in touch with their lighter, brighter side with vibrant hues and fun patterns.

SAGITTARIUS

Sagittarius men would never admit this, but they’d really adore something sexy and sensuous, such as designer underwear or top-of-the-line sheets.

CAPRICORN

Capricorn would be pleasantly surprised with something that salutes their devil-may-care streak, like a day at the local theme park or a night at the opera.

AQUARIUS

Aquarius usually likes whacky, unique presents, but this year give them a luxury fragrance, a leather-bound journal or a fancy key ring.

PISCES

Pisces already has the best-of-the-best in music and film, so go the other direction and get them a science or nature magazine subscription, or perhaps a book on, say, archaeology.
