Death to indifference! Re-examining our past and embracing our future are key astrological themes as we move into 2012, so don’t be surprised if The Descendants is a major contender. And with George Clooney boasting the current astrological-faved zodiac sign: Taurus (lucky Jupiter is in the constellation of Taurus) the stars are rooting for anything good old Georgie touches!
Winning isn’t everything -- one of the premises of this philosophically nuanced Globe contender. With leading Sadge star Brad Pitt at the helm of this flick, you can bet that it’s got all the luck of Jupiter and then some. And with the collective messages of 2012 moving more and more toward “the process” vs. the “the goal,” Pitt is likely to hit a home run.
Although most bets are on Meryl or Viola Davis for snagging the Best Actress Globe, let us not overlook the fabulous and radical Ram: Rooney Mara from the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.Aries are in it to win it, so you know that this firewoman gave it her all and if she doesn't take the prize this round, look for future wins.
With Saturn, the cosmic taskmaster in the sign of marriage (Libra) teaching us some hard knock lessons around love and commitment for the past two years, who couldn't use some comic relief from relationship hell? Bridesmaids is the perfect antidote to all of your relationship, commitment, break-up and OPW (other people's weddings) woes.
Ryan Gosling, forever the mesmerizing Scorpion, is the predicted victor in this category for his magnetic display in Crazy, Stupid Love. For Scorpio, it's all in the magnetic, albeit subtle, seductive powers behind those penetrating eyes. Even if Ryan looked a bit shall we say -- overly polished in this flick, the drop-dead sex appeal seemingly never fails to take the cake.
The Best Actress category boasts several roles featuring emotionally stunted, challenged or just plain emotionally laden female characters. Which emotional drama is most aligned with the stars? Charlize Theron, our lioness in the nominated bunch, took on the role of an emotionally stunted author. Neptune presides over the greater collective emotional themes, and with Neptune on the verge of entering the constellation of Pisces, perhaps the biggest victim takes all.
Though it's exciting to see Jonah Hill getting some credit for playing the math-whiz sidekick to Brad Pitt's baseball general manager in Moneyball, Cancer-Leo cuspie Albert Brooks has been stealing the hearts of audiences as the irresistible geek in Drive. Using the sweetness and fun lunacy of Cancer and combining it with the showmanship and charisma of Leo, it's not a surprise that Brooks has got the winning formula. And with Saturn figuring prominently in his horoscope, he's got the world on his string.
The surprisingly yet captivating performance of upcoming Scorpionic starlet Shailene Woodley was sure to get a major nod in the Globe nominations. And indeed this darling is a major contender for BSA. Her authentic, shoot-between-the-eyes had the critics take note and with Mars, ruler of Scorpio figuring so prominently in the stars this year, don't be surprised if we see this riveting princess skyrocket before 2013.
Lucky Jupiter is most definitely gracing the stars of Taurus, as evidenced by Hollywood’s beloved George Clooney garnering not only the Best Actor nod but also in the running for Best Director. And considering he’s up against heavyweight filmmaking moguls Woody Allen (Sagittarius) and Martin Scorsese (Scorpio), this is no mean feat for sure. If any planet can bring miracles it’s Jupiter, and the Bulls are reaping the heavy blessings of this bright planet until June!
Since grabbing last year's Globe for Social Network, Aaron Sorkin has now tripled his threat by teaming up with Stan and Steve to produce the wining baseball dramedy, Moneyball, considered a likely pick for this category. Can this crew top the crème de la crème writing of the screenwriting Woodman himself for Midnight in Paris? Interesting that this is a case of Gemini (Sorkin) vs. Sagittarius (Allen)—two opposing signs, astrologically.
Although there were no clear standouts in this category this year, perhaps astrological archetypes can give us some clues as to which animated flick could nab the Globe. If we allow the stars to guide the top picks, Steven Speilberg’s The Adventures of Tintin is a very strong contender in this tight race. With Uranus in Aries, adventure is truly the collective theme in the 2012 zeitgeist.
New Girl, Zooey Deschanel’s *new* drama, is a major contender primed to steal the thunder from last year’s winning, Glee. And with Pluto, the power planet amping up Zooey’s (Capricorn) star power, her fabulous and quirky presence in the show is exactly the magic needed to move this series right on into the winner’s circle. Never underestimate the power of the goat—they always reach the top.
Could HBO’s new fabulous fantasy series, Game of Thrones, steal the family kingdom from the Boardwalk Empire this year? With Neptune -- the planet that rules all-things mystical -- moving into its home sign Pisces this year, the collective unconscious is starving for more and more fantasy. That said, expect Game of Thrones to take all.
Alec Baldwin is the embodiment of Ram power in his role as head honcho on 30 Rock. Can he snag yet another round of accolades from the GGs? Aries are determined winners and not prone to surrender the throne without a good fight. It’s going to be hard to top the diehard performance of this new perennial favorite hot shot. See the full list of nominees below.
Hilarious Virgo cutie Amy Poehler is due for some proper comedy respect this year for her dynamite role in Parks and Recreation. And with Mars, the planet of major mojo, firing up her constellation for an unprecedented run, she’ll have the gusto of the planetary forces on her side. And if anyone deserves a colossal accolade for making us LOL, it’s Amy. See the full list of nominees below!
Meth dealer versus evil bootlegger -- can the stars decide the fate of these two underground villains? With Pluto in Capricorn working on the collective psyche in the form of exposing corrupt moguls and other megalomaniac monsters, it’s no wonder that these are the top contenders. Steve Buscemi, a Sagittarian chap, has lucky Jupiter on his side making it not only possible but probable that he could trump Bryan Cranston. See all the nominees below!
Gemini gem Juliana Marguiles is a shoo-in for the BA Globe with her turn on the The Good Wife, despite an impressive array of female competitors. With both lucky Jupiter and the planet of beauty and money heading to her sign in 2012, her star is clearly on the rise. Will the advent of snagging the Golden Globe be just the beginning? Watch this Twinstar work her magic. See the full list of nominees below.
Can this Cancer cutie teat it up against a crazy-powerful dramatic line-up in such a crazy-competitive category? Not only is Sofia Vergara going head-to-head with a powerful crop of dramatic contenders, she’s also the lone wolf in the comedy category. Luckily, Cancer is the sign that rules lunacy, so as mad as it may seem she could surprise everyone with a wacky twist of fate. See the full list of nominees below.
Can this womanizing fantasy man (aptly played by a cunning little trickster Gemini) who portrays Tryion Lannister on HBO’s series, Game of Thrones, hold on to his reign? Or will he have to concede his throne to his mercurial sibling (Virgo) Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family? Although Virgos have Mars (god of war) on their side, Geminis are about to have the dual power of Venus and Jupiter boosting their success. A close call, indeed. See all the nominees below.
