Grand Trine - a powerful force

There has been an Earth Grand Trine in place since the beginning of March of Jupiter in Taurus trine Mars in Virgo trine Pluto in Capricorn. It was exact just before mid month but really cast its shadow over several weeks.

What Grand Trines do is flow the energy of the three planets together usually in the same element so magnifying in this case the Earthiness of the energy. This particular Grand Trine in place now is made up of Jupiter plus Pluto which is pushily confident and expansive. Jupiter plus Mars is might makes right. Mars plus Pluto is violent and ruthless. So it is an extremely potent brew.

In personal charts Grand Trines are supposed to be lucky and talented though they do appear in many criminals’ charts so there is an element of wanting something for nothing. In mundane charts – what’s happening out in the world – they do have more ominous overtones. WW11 launched on an Earth Grand Trine as did the Falklands War. The Afghan War launched on an Air Grand Trine, Pearl Harbour on a Fire Grand Trine and the Six Day War on a Water Grand Trine.

Looking back over this month there have been an extraordinary run of accidents and atrocities – starting with the Polish train crash, the shooting of Afghanee civilians by a US soldier, the Swiss bus crash, the murder of soldiers and Jewish children in France and the Trayvon Martin shooting.

All of these are more than descriptive of this Mars Pluto Jupiter Grand Trine. Jupiter does on occasion bring luck and ease, but in these cases it obviously just amplifies the Mars Pluto effect even more destructively.

What is also relevant astrologically at the moment is the July 2011 Solar Eclipse chart which was an especially difficult one tying the prevailing bleak and unstable Saturn opposition Uranus square Pluto transits into the Cancer Solar Eclipse. Transiting Pluto moved from late February to oppose that July Eclipsed New Moon and stays on this aspect till late May. It may seem odd to work off an Eclipse chart from the past but they do seem to have an effect in later years especially when transits trigger them.

Usually when there are significantly powerful events out in the world there is more than one set of influences in place. So for this month the Eclipse after-effect plus the Grand Trine has produced a run of tragedies.
