Mistress of the oceans and tides, Luna loves to wash away what ails you with the healing powers of salt water.
Soaking in a hot tub, allowing your stresses and fears to melt away, is the perfect activity for dark Moon times. And, with just a few simple ingredients, it's easy to make your own purifying bath salts. Bath salts are simply a mixture of salt, and a few optional add-in ingredients.
First, create your salt base. Many types of salt work well in a bath – from sea salt to coarse salt to kosher. Exotic salts, such as Himalayan, Dead Sea Salt, Celtic salt or Hawaiian salt can add unique trace minerals to the mix, plus the vibe of the place in which the salt was harvested. You may choose your mix as appropriate to your desires, availability and budget. (Those with skin sensitivities may want to avoid soaking iodized salts.)
To your salt base, you may wish to add additional ingredients. Common salt bath add-ins include:
Epsom salt: Epsom salt is a different kind of salt, made from magnesium sulfate (not sodium chloride like the above). Magnesium sulfate is known for its ability to soothe tight or sore muscles
Baking soda: Baking soda works as a skin softener and relieves skin irritations
Powdered milk: Milk is another skin softening agent
Essential oils or herbs: Scents can provide their own healing effects. A few drops of essential oils can be added directly to your salt base. Alternatively, you may choose to make a separate herb sachet (herbs tied in cheesecloth or a muslin bag), which steeps directly in the bath water like a teabag Share a free sample 2014 Day-By-Day Forecast. Essential oils/herbs especially associated with purification include lavender, chamomile, sandalwood, lemon balm, bay, rosemary and basil
And that’s it. Mix all of your ingredients together and you have made your own bath salts. Place in an airtight, non-metallic container and they will last shelf for months. (In a pretty container, they also make a great gift.)
When taking a bath, more is not necessarily better with bath salts. For an average-size American bath, you may find one-quarter to one cup bath salts per tub is sufficient. For your purifying bath ritual, you may wish to light candles and listen to soothing music to set the mood. Draw your bath and add your purifying bath salts. As you soak, imagine your tensions flowing out into the bath water. When you are finished your bath, pull the plug, and continue to imagine your tensions flowing down the drain with the water.
