Hurricane Sandy - the Eclipse effect

A natural disaster of the proportion of Superstorm Sandy certainly fits with the USA country 4 July 1776 chart having Solar Arc Pluto within less than a sixth of a degree conjunct the natal Neptune which is square Mars. That devastatingly destructive Solar Arc has been in place for over a year now and while the hardship caused by the economic downturn could be seen as damaging it never seemed quite enough to explain the magnitude of that set of aspects. This storm certainly does, as Solar Arc Pluto draws close to the exact conjunction with Neptune, having squared Mars last year. Pluto Neptune has a capacity for immense devastation, never mind the brutality of Mars mixed in there as well.

 

Hurricane Sandy arrived at US landfall according to the Hurricane Centre around 8pm on 29^{th October near Atlantic City. This puts the overly expansive Jupiter opposition Mars on the Ascendant/Descendant with watery Neptune in the 10th. Jupiter oddly for a planet that is supposedly beneficial often appears marked in disasters presumably because of its tendency to expand whatever it touches, for good or for ill.}

The Full Moon was just passed, with the Scorpio Sun conjunct Saturn opposition Taurus Moon forming a Half Grand Sextile with Sun Saturn sextile Pluto sextile Neptune. And Mars semi-square Saturn and semi-semi-square Pluto. So it was a heavy duty Full Moon.

 

In addition this was the Full Moon before the peculiarly difficult upcoming Lunar Eclipse on November 28th. Eclipses sometimes trigger events on the preceding or subsequent Full Moons.

 

Predicting natural disasters is often done through Eclipse charts located to particular regions. The November 28th Lunar Eclipse approaching at 6 degrees Gemini/Sagittarius always did look ominous located to New York with Mars Pluto closely conjunct in Capricorn on the Ascendant sextile Saturn in Scorpio conjunct the Midheaven.

 

City charts are also extraordinarily useful set for the date of founding or the date of incorporation. The Katrina disaster for instance was outstandingly clear on the New Orleans city chart, 7 May 1718.

 

The New York City 1 January 1898 chart has at the moment the insecure, disruptive tr Uranus square Sun/Mars midpoint till early November and again in January 2013 which is accident-prone, often explosively so. Plus the Lunar Eclipse sits on top of the New York Saturn in Sagittarius in the 3rd suggesting communication and transport dislocations.

 

Even more pointedly the New York City chart has a 10 degree Capricorn Sun and probably Cancer Midheaven and Libra Ascendant around the same degree. In 2013 transitting Pluto will conjunct that Sun which suggests a major and difficult transformation which usually starts with a deconstruction phase before a longish period of rebuilding. That certainly makes sense of events.

 

Atlantic City, incorporated 1 May 1854, was always due major problems around now with tr Neptune opposition its Mars in Virgo and moving at the New Year to square its Saturn in Gemini – so a long drawn out phase of confusion, panic and uncertainty from tough circumstances. Tr Saturn was also exactly opposition the Atlantic City Pluto through the disaster which is very stuck, bringing great hardship. The natal Saturn square Mars has moved to early Fixed signs so was picking up the Full Moon and will get the tr Saturn hard aspects through this month as well. Recovery will be slow and painful. Tr Saturn moves to oppose the Atlantic City Taurus Sun in January 2013 which is again discouraging.

 

The New Jersey State chart, 18 Dec 1787, has tr Uranus opposition the Solar Arc Saturn at the moment which is jolting; and the Solar Arc Pluto moves to square the Sun through the next few months which usually slows life down considerably.

 

Looking at the two Washington DC charts – 16 July 1790 and incorporated 3 May 1802 – both show great concern and uncertainty, though the 1790 chart is the more accurate. It has Solar Arc Mars square Uranus now as well as tr Uranus exactly conjunct Saturn – both of which suggest high insecurity and major jolts.
