On the other side of the curtains, the first rays of dawn illuminate the sky. I pat around the nightstand until I feel the phone. I push the button. The bright screen makes my eyes wince: 6:13 a.m. Another day.

Life as an astrologer is probably not that much different from most people. Get out of bed. Turn on the coffeemaker or tea kettle. Step into the shower to clear the mind's night fog. Rattle the 8-year-old out of bed and tell her to get dressed. Pack lunch. Check the backpack while breakfast disappears. Herd everyone into the car. Time for school.

After the morning ritual, I go to my own office. While you might check the morning emails, or stock prices, my ephemeris awaits me with its daily cosmic forecast. Then my clients bring reports of the weather in their area.

For most people I talk with, it's raining -- hard. I see an epidemic of overwhelm and exhaustion. There's so much information and demands flooding our senses, it's hard to know where to turn or what to tackle first. People are looking for some kind of relief.

I feel it too. The stress of a 24/7 lifestyle eats away at the mind, body and heart. We are in the in-between world. We desperately juggle old ways. We secretly fear a breakdown, or maybe hope a breakdown could be a breakthrough to something new.

I wish I had a magic wand. I'd wave it over my clients to make life a little easier. (Then whack myself on the head with it for good measure.) But birth -- especially the first birth --- is often a long and laborious affair. Can changing the world be any different?

When you are expecting, you can go to a birthing coach to learn how to work with the contractions. Astrology is like that -- it can show you when it's time to push. For example, today the Moon is in Scorpio, growing in light, but void-of-course. What does that mean?

It's a time to build, to create something new. However, we live in a free-will zone. No one can tell you precisely what to create, because the path is different for each one of us. The only way to truly know what works for you, is to observe yourself. Try different things, and see which ones work for you. How does the sky affect you? Your own actions? Which things create stress? Which bring you joy?

Your life is an experiment, and you are the scientist. Keep a good lab book, and you will soon see patterns. In those patterns are the key to you unique brand of happiness. There you will find secrets of what you will create.
