Love Lessons From The End Of The Zodiac, Part Two - Sagittarius: Faith Vs. Common Sense

by Matthew Currie July 15, 2009 10:36 AM EST
Today we're going to take a look at love from a different angle and see what we might be able to learn from it. Let me introduce you to my best buddy ever: Faith. Faith has her Sun and Moon conjunct in Sagittarius. As you can well imagine, this makes her a classic example of the Sign. She doesn't walk, so much as bounce. And often, she bounces into things. Like, relationships.
Faith has been married... well, let's say more than once. And she's been in... well, let's say more than one relationship. Each time she entered into a new relationship, it was with the same bright-eyed optimism you'd expect from her.  And whenever the man in question stopped trying or turned out to be a jerk or simply wasn't "the One"... she'd be sad.
And yet afterwards, every time, she'd do the most astounding thing: she'd dry her eyes, saddle up, and get back out there.
Now, lesser creatures (like you and me) might very well fall into the trap of bemoaning Fate, cursing the opposite sex, or denying ever having wanted to be in love in the first place. Or we might simply fall into that most subtle of traps... "common sense."
Faith and I? We laugh at common sense sometimes. We know that "common sense" is the surest route to a very common life. Whereas, engaging life with an open heart and (hopefully) a properly-secured crash helmet? That's what life and love and having a pulse is all really about.
And damned if we both didn't turn out to be right about that... despite all "common sense."
All this Sagittarian resilience finally paid off. Faith found a man she can be happy with, and who is happy with her. And it works. Sure, she had to move to other other side of the planet to find it (thank you, Internet dating!). But you know: they say women are from Venus and men are from Mars. Lucky Faith... she only had to go to Australia to find the One.
One of the first things I learned from another astrologer is that Sagittarius is one of the "teachers" of the Zodiac. You see this a lot: Centaurs often make excellent teachers, even though they're often lousy students. And what lesson has Faith taught me? Above all else: Believe. Wherever you've been in your life, it's where you're going next that really counts. Believe.
The road ahead may be long, but it's only infinitely long if you talk yourself out of taking it.
