An intensely powerful new Moon solar eclipse, also known as the "Ring of Fire", arrives on Tuesday, April 29 in Taurus, the sign of the Bull. If you’ve been feeling the need to shed old patterns and eliminate ancient, toxic habits -- or if you’ve been clinging to them for dear life, this eclipse will help you to finally let go, hopefully for the long haul. Set your intention to inspire, shift and evolve.

It’s normal to feel somewhat anxious and jittery with anticipation during the days leading up to an eclipse. Because this one takes place in Taurus, an Earth-ruled sign, remaining grounded is essential. Yoga, meditation, quiet, wholesome meals with loved ones, and being in nature are activities that will help you feel safe and en-souled while you’re reconfiguring your life’s direction. (Hint: Try to stay off your gadgets as much as possible.)

Taurus is a feminine, fixed, Venus-ruled sign -- sensuality, art, beauty, planting, hard work, gardens, money, values, pleasure, practicality, good food and wine, sex and a little bit of luxury are all under its domain. This eclipse should be less overwhelming and dramatic than the infamous Blood Moon/Lunar Eclipse that took place two weeks ago, but that’s not to say it’s going to be a breeze. Eclipses are rarely light and easy, but because this one receives positive beams from Mercury and Pluto, it holds great promise for transforming the way we think and communicate, especially about what matters most: our value system.

A solar eclipse, as opposed to a lunar eclipse, is when the Moon passes over the Sun’s disk, eclipsing its light for a time. Lunar eclipses usually make our emotions run high, whereas solar eclipses tend to alter our daily lives with encounters and major plot twists. Sometimes events will seem fated, but you must trust that whatever comes it’s all in the interest of the evolution of your soul.

There are several ways to look at this evocative new Moon solar eclipse in Taurus. The degrees of solar eclipses mark a 19-year astronomical cycle called the “Saros Cycle”. Think back to what was going on in your life in April of 1996 -- that’s the last time the current Saros Cycle was exact. This can tell you, in part, what you’re letting go of and what you’re moving toward.

In addition to analyzing the eclipse via the Saros Cycle, you can simply look at where Taurus and its opposite sign, Scorpio, fall in your own chart. If you’re a Taurus or a Scorpio, especially one whose birthday falls late in April or late October, this eclipse is a huge event for you. (It’s also quite powerful for late-January Aquarians and late-July Leos.) The current Taurus/Scorpio eclipse cycle began in November of 2012, was activated in May of 2013, and reactivated again six months ago.

Did you start a relationship, a new job or embark on an emotional transformation at one of these pivotal moments in the last few years? That’s what’s coming up for karmic review now. If any of these ventures no longer align with your values, they may be eclipsed out of your life.

But don’t be afraid! You’re going in the right direction, even if life feels uncertain. You understand deep in the cells of your body that the only option is authenticity. Make plenty of space for what’s real, and cast out the superficial, meaningless stuff. And don’t forget to eclipse fake people -- you don’t need them. It’s integrity or bust, at least for the next six months.
