A lot is being said about Michael Jackson's death today, and a lot will probably be said tomorrow. And admittedly, this blog (being as it is about love an' romance an' stuff) is not usually the place you'd see an obituary for a pop culture icon. But, having written on Jackson elsewhere (and still having visions of his birth chart before my eyes) I realized an important lesson.
Michael Jackson may have been the world's biggest star, but you wouldn't want to marry the man. I'm sorry to say that, but it's true. Even if I didn't know whose birth chart I was looking at, and someone wanted my professional opinion on his mate-worthiness, I would have concerns.
The things that draw you to a person aren't necessarily the things that make a person (or a relationship) stable. At all. And that lesson stands out in his birth chart. Often in a close relationship, it's a variant on the things that drew you in that ultimately drive you away. And even without a proper time of birth (he was born August 29th, 1958, in Gary Indiana) some of these things stand out among Michael's planets. When I was in High School, these are the qualities that made the girls sigh when contemplating Michael Jackson... and they are the same qualities that would have made a long-term relationship with him difficult, if not impossible.
Sun conjunct Pluto: The Sun is your Ego, and a dose of Pluto (rather like plutonium) adds fire and intensity. This is the sort of thing that naturally draws attention. So you might be forgiven for thinking that intensity and fire might make for a passionate lover. As it turns out, yes, Michael Jackson was passionate about something... unfortunately for anyone with a crush on him, that "something" turned out to be "building a fantasy world that no one over the age of thirteen is welcome in."
Moon square Saturn: This aspect often leads to wounded emotions, often stemming from childhood circumstances. And c'mon, admit it... you may be a like a lot of people in that the "wounded child" vibe can be really appealing. If so, congratulations: you are a kind and decent human being. And you may have noticed that being a kind and decent human being often means putting up with way too much crazy crap from a partner.... like being made to share your dinner table with a chimp.
Venus square Mars: This is, in many ways, even more charismatic than the Sun-Pluto conjunction. Almost anyone who met Michael Jackson will tell you he had tremendous presence to him, despite being rather shy and quiet when not performing. A Venus-Mars square is also often cited as bringing with it a very high sex drive. We aren't exactly sure what Michael Jackson did with this drive, though. However, there are rumors. And these are not the kind of rumors you want to be hearing about your mate.
On the other hand: there's no question that he was tremendously talented, and in his time he induced a lot of dancing. And there's nothing wrong with that.
