A Parent's Guide to Spring Fever

Spring is – finally -- just around the corner and children everywhere are getting ready to shake off the dark gloom of winter and enjoy the warmer weather and longer days. Since every child is unique, each has particular needs for how they transition from season to season. Use the element (Air, Fire, Water, Earth) of your child’s Sun sign to better understand how you can support them as they make the shift from winter to spring.

Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Communication rules when you’re an Air sign. But as winter turns to spring, these kids will need reminders to get off their computers and back into the real world. They can be tempted to do all their socializing by text or chat, so help them to get out of the house and socializing in person. Planning fun outdoor events where they can invite friends along will help them make the transition. Beach parties, picnics, camping trips and outdoor games are all great ways for your Air sign child to enjoy the season.

Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Your Fire child is probably biting at the bit and dying to burn off some steam. These active kids likely already spent a fair amount of time outside even in the cold, enjoying winter sports. But as the weather warms up, Fire children need even more outlets for their considerable energy. Get them enrolled in spring sports, a drama club (especially for Leo), or take them on trips to museums and cultural events (Sagittarius’ love to learn). The more variety and new experiences they are exposed to. the easier they will adapt to the new season.

Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Water signs usually have a bit of an introverted quality, so they don’t mind spending plenty of time alone, happily reading, doing art or other quiet projects. In this way, they are more suited to winter than almost any other element. So, when the warmer weather rolls around, they can be a bit hesitant to get outside and get moving. Help them make the shift by bringing some of their indoor projects outside. An art or cooking project (think barbecue) could be just the ticket to helping these imaginative kids enjoy spring in style.

Earth (Taurus ,Virgo, Capricorn)
Practical Earth signs like to feel like they’re accomplishing something. Odd jobs and other hands-on, moneymaking projects appeal to these “do-it-yourself” kids. Get them outside with gardening, lemonade/cookie stands, tree-house building, chicken-coop care and other fun outdoor projects. They’ll enjoy learning a new skill and a chance to make a little pocket money. They may need a little more time to make the transition from winter to spring, but once they do they’ll have no problem adjusting to a new tempo and pace.
