The Planets and St. Patrick's Day

The once religious holiday celebrated in honor of Saint Patrick and the holy trinity is now associated with parades, the color green and lots of imbibing. What does any of this have to do with astrology? St. Patrick’s Day does fall very close to the Vernal Equinox (and the start of the tropical zodiac) so it could be considered the party-hearty precursor to the beginning of spring. Plus, the holiday always falls under the libation-loving sign of Pisces.

This year, the 17th occurs in the midst of several retrograde planets, including Mars, Mercury and Saturn. We’ll all be more than ready for a day off. And with the Moon in social Aquarius, the-more-the-merrier theme is a sure bet. Spending time in crowds or with your favorite troupe of friends proves pleasurable under this lunar aspect.

If you’re the consummate introvert, you may be surprised to find yourself craving to be surrounded by people in honor of the Aquarian Moon. With Mercury and Mars retrograde, be sure not to get so wild that you say things you’ll regret later.

Avoid the mishaps that having a few too many may cause -- which are more rampant during retrogrades -- such as drunken dialing or worse, endless text messaging. Best to leave your phone and your car keys at home if you plan to party like the Irish.
