The new Leonardo Di Caprio movie, J Edgar, is all about the bizarre life of the former head of the FBI – a life that seemed to hide more secrets and lies than the lives of the subjects on whom he was spying.

If you know someone with control-freak issues, look to Pluto in their chart, and for deception, you will want to check out Neptune. J Edgar Hoover had these two power players conjunct in intellectual, emotionally-detached Gemini indicating a Machievellian character for whom power was paramount, as were secrets – both his own and those of others. The entire key to his authority was his ability to trade in skeletons – although he kept his in a closest of a different kind.

Moreover, this conjunction is square to his natal Moon in Pisces. He was a much more sensitive person than he ever let on but felt compelled to keep his emotional life under complete wraps or he risked unravelling the elaborate web of false control he had constructed for himself.

His repressive nature, however, was also his great advantage as is seen by the rare and beneficial aspect in his chart called the Mystic Rectangle. Saturn and Mars in opposition points to a man who kept his demons firmly under lock and key, while Mercury opposite Jupiter showed a high level of suspicion and paranoia. These oppositions, however, are held together through sextiles, creating a tight unit in the form of a rectangle. He was able to easily turn all these complex, difficult aspects to his personal advantage and achieve fame and power through what would seem to be very inhibitive personality traits.
