Born in Scotland on December 20, 1815, James Legge was a noted expert of Chinese Studies. A missionary, he lived and taught in Hong Kong for over 30 years, and he was the first professor to teach Chinese Studies at Oxford University, from 1876 to 1897. He died that same year.
