If change seems to be on the horizon in your work environment, it can be helpful to get ahead of the game and plan for the future. But sometimes there can be so many potential directions to go in, it can be hard to know which ones to choose.

Should you go back to school? Send out resumes to all your friends and contacts? Strike out on your own and start a new business? With such an abundance of options it can be helpful to find a way to focus and center your attention so that you can go forward with clarity and understanding.

Tarot is a wonderful tool to draw upon during those times in life when everything seems to be just a little “too much”. Below are some ideas to get you started on how to make the best use of tarot as you forge ahead on your career path.

Tarot Roulette
If you have more than a few choices about what your next step should be, this is a great activity to give you more insight into each option.
Tools: A deck of tarot cards, paper and a pen
Directions: Mix up a deck of tarot cards and focus on your first option. Pull one card and then continue to do so for each option you have until you have a selection of cards laid out in front of you. (Example: If you could take a new job in your same company, go on unemployment, or go back to school, pull three cards, one for each).

For every card, write down the choice it represents and jot down any first impressions of the card that you felt when you saw it. Does the energy of the card seem happy, sad, scary or neutral to you? What are the major symbols or people in the card? Colors? Shapes? What experiences do you associate with the card? Once you have written notes down for every card, read them back to yourself and get a sense based on what you have written, (and also your impressions of the card), of which choice seems like the best for you at this time in your life.

Timing Your Action
This activity can help you determine your timing around the changes you want to make.
Tools: Deck of tarot cards, paper and pen
Directions: Mix the cards and focus on a decision you need to make, asking whether you should act on this decision more quickly (days or weeks) or more slowly (months or years). Pull one card and turn it over face up (if you get a Major Arcana, keep pulling until you get one of the Suite cards that are labeled, Swords, Wands, Pentacles or Cups/Chalices.)

Quick Action Cards
Swords: Move quickly with your words or communication around the matter.
Wands: Move quickly with your actions.

Slow Action Cards
Pentacles: Move slowly and be practical in your actions. Cups/Chalices: Move slowly and follow your heart and your emotions.
