There are many celestial patterns that color 2013, which will peak in and out of luminosity as the year progresses.
Yet, one that seems like a true bellwether, a backdrop against which all the other themes and patterns will be played out, is Saturn’s penetrating residence in Scorpio. Saturn entered the go-where-most-don’t-like-to-go sign of Scorpio in October 2012 and will reside here through 2015.
As the planet of reality, Saturn shows us where we need to shore up our foundations. As it journeys through Scorpio, it will likely put on our collective radars areas of well-being to which we should pay more attention.
Here are three wellness arenas in which I think we’ll experience an upswing of interest.
In wellness/medical astrology, Scorpio is associated with the large intestines. So don’t be surprised if we become more focused upon our colonic health (remember, Scorpio is associated with those things we usually don't talk about in "polite company"). I have a feeling that we will find out more and more about how intestinal flora imbalance is connected to health conditions such as diabetes and inflammatory conditions (such as arthritis), let alone gastro-intestinal upset. There will likely be a rising interest in foods with pro-biotic properties (such as kefir and kim-chi) as well as pre-biotic properties (such as Jerusalem artichokes and chicory).
Scorpio is known for its all-or-nothing proclivities and encourages us to purge and really get to the bottom of things. Given that Scorpio also governs the elimination system, I have a feeling that detoxing—whether through juice fasts, colonics, skin dry-brushing, "cleansing" foods and herbs, or other techniques—will become a bigger trend. After all, with Neptune in Pisces inspiring our awareness of how growing environmental pollution impacts our bodies and minds, we're becoming more aware of the effect that toxins have upon our well-being.
As steamy Scorpio likes to strip things off and get naked on many levels, it's a sign highly associated with sexuality. With Saturn being the planet of responsibility, over the next few years we may find an urge to focus on our passions more intently and intentionally. As such, tantra and sacred sexuality practices may gain greater popularity. An affinity to more deeply exploring pleasure with our partners may also lead to a greater interest in erotica, the integration of sex toys in love-making rituals, and an upswing in couples counseling.
