“Everybody’s scared of being embodied. And unless we do take the journey into being embodied , in being on this “great boat of meat” as Jung called it; unless we really risk embodiment and really risk confronting the dark side of God, the dark side of the feminine, the dark side of God, the dark side of the feminine, the dark side of our own shadow and really coming to terms with that and moving out of a heartbroken understanding of that into a passion for reconstructing the world in the name of compassion and justice, we’re not going to survive.”

"Shall we end this bleeding?”
Saturn in Scorpio sets the stage for serious psychological shedding — if not total metamorphosis. What does it feel like to tear it all down and start from scratch? What truly sustains us when nothing else externally sustains us? — as Jung asked in his darkest night of the soul. This is the perfect question for the collective at this most intense and uncertain juncture. How do we live with the threat of total annihilation on a daily basis? Even if you don’t subscribe to the prophecy of the Mayan calendar, or put much heed in the ongoing destructive displays of Mother Nature, or even think the world is in any more danger than it ever has been … one simply cannot deny the feeling of darkness, chaos and destruction running rampant in the collective unconscious at the moment.
Priorities are of the essence. We could lose all of our belongings and security at a moment’s notice. Weeding out nonessentials is no longer a luxury but a dire if not an involuntary necessity. We are realizing just what a burden material possessions are as we crave the beauty and simplicity of the opposite polarity: Taurus. We crave an inner rootedness and security like never before as we see that external forms of support are too dicey. We realize home is most reliably in our own bones.
Scorpio is connected to the 13th Major Arcana in the Tarot and the archetype of Death (Rebirth). Death is one of our greatest if not most painful teachers. Spiritual masters always speak of how important it is to live in the moment and stop living like we have forever; to live like a bird on a branch of a tree that could break at any moment so that we don’t get too attached, realizing that anything could change at a moment’s notice. The recent destructive energy of Sandy directly on the heels of Saturn entering Scorpio is a direct testimony to how powerful the “tear it all down to ash” energy of Scorpio truly is.
Scorpio is a fixed water sign, and all of our more stubborn emotional patterns tend to become highlighted during this phase (read: possessiveness, jealousy and control issues). Saturn asks us to get to the bone level of our fears, insecurities and inadequacies in order to build strength and cultivate mastery. While in Scorpio, we are being asked to look into the darkest chasms, the innermost recesses of our psyches. What legacies, skeletons and most archaic psychological patterns lurk in our own personal and collective psychic underground?
Of course, no one would happily admit such shadow aspects of human nature, yet it is precisely such shadow work that will reveal our beautiful depths and emotional authenticity. It is time to dance in the beautiful and sacred darkness of the divine feminine. Think Kali, Sophia, and other such dark goddess energy when you think of Scorpio. The goddesses that assist us in facing our deepest fears and darkness. How have our desires, expectations and dependencies created suffering. If we can embrace the green monsters within and get to their insecure roots, we can often uncover tremendous strength and emotional resourcefulness rather than projecting our darker aspects onto others (especially our significant others). Scorpio gives us the courage and impetus to do such dirty work.
Now is the time to summon our emotional courage and delve into all the scary and unknown parts of our inner world so that we can truly transform the darkness to light and start again. A Scorpion can hold its breath for three days, survive intense amounts of radiation that would kill most living creatures, and even survive in a frozen state. But this is just a mere glimpse into the power of the constellation of Scorpio. This can be a time of such tremendous rebirth, if only we are willing to die to the old aspects of self. If it no longer serves your highest, let go, let go, let go.
