Shadowdance: Looking for Love During Eclipse Season

The next (Gemini) lunar eclipse will take place on 12/21/10 (the winter solstice), at 29' 21 degrees of Gemini/Sagittarius. How will this affect new love, and your relationships? Read on.

Eclipses move backwards, clockwise through the signs and your birth chart. There’s something to that, symbolically. Like the phenomenon of deja vu, eclipse themes eerily repeat. The characters may be different, but the emotional themes are similar. Now you’re thinking, uh-oh. Will a deadbeat lover come back from the dead, zombified? That’s where looking backwards, digesting how far you’ve come since that relationship, helps. 

Imagine you once had a relationship with a partner who had an addiction issue. You look in the ephemeris & notice that around the date the relationship began, a solar eclipse occurred at 27 degrees Virgo activating your Moon-Neptune square, 26 degrees Virgo/Sagittarius respectively (when you're exploring relationship beginnings, examine eclipses six months before and after). 

Eclipses work in 4.5, 9 and 18 year cycles. Fast-forward, say, nine years later when that eclipse will do a repeat performance when you had a new romantic partner who brought up similarly frustrating issues! This happened to one of my clients, the pattern repeated twice- except - in the aftermath of the second relationship she became more aware of her codependent tendencies, which ultimately led her to discover astrology, attend spiritual classes, retreats - feeding Moon/Neptune in healthy ways.

If you meet someone new during your love cycle, look at the relationships you had, then, and use the information today. Foggy about what lessons you were working on? If you have a general idea about planets work in your birth chart, astrology can assist you in identifying those. For instance, I have a Moon/Chiron conjunction in Aries on my Descendant. It's been important for me to feel confident, courageous and have a Self within all my partnerships, but it's also easy for me to be eclipsed by other people's needs - especially when I feel insecure. If I have a clear sense of 'I AM', then the Aries/Libra eclipse season isn't so rough and tumble on my partnerships.

If you’re looking for love in the dark of eclipse season, keep perspective. Our attitude and orientation toward growth, changes everything. I always remind my clients to remember what they have learned during this time, and to use that information. If we’ve experienced our shortcomings due to inexperience, this is the time to identify how far we’ve grown in awareness, & to trust our self to get it right.  Hindsight is a huge helper, so let’s use it to unbind us from the past.  No one is doomed to repeat karmic loops!
