Spring Cleaning: Help from the Cosmos

Planning your spring-cleaning according to the cosmos might sound a bit quirky, but the energy of the heavens can actually influence your ability to clear out, tidy up and get organized. In March and April, here’s how the dynamics of the planets can help you spruce up your home.

Venus in techno-loving Aquarius from March 3 to March 27 inspires you to get your electrical gadgets organized. If you need to replace wires or cords, recycle cell phones or computers, or upgrade your TV or IPod, now’s the time to do so. Clear out boxes full of unnecessary electrical items. If you’re done with it, give it to someone who needs it. If it no longer works (this includes small appliances like microwaves, old printers, etc) find out how to properly dispose of it and free up some space.

Every new Moon brings the possibility of new beginnings, but since the new Moon on March 4 falls in the dreamy water sign of Pisces, you may find you only have motivation to spruce up your bathroom, pool or spa! Freshening up these areas -- think flowers, plants, pretty soaps or new towels for the bathroom, or sprucing up outdoor landscaping by the pool -- will put you in a good frame of mind. This is also a good time to check the quality of your tap water.

From March 28 to April 21, Venus is in relaxed Pisces, encouraging you to make your space more comfortable. Simplicity is key at home and you’ll want to cast a critical eye over couches, cushions and soft furnishings. If designs no longer to your taste, pass things on and stock up on something new. Since couches and other bedding hold dust, use this time to vacuum under couch cushions, wash pet bedding and air your mattress or duvet. Sunlight, heat and a good dusting make a huge difference.

March’s full Moon on March 19 falls in organized Virgo making this the perfect time to streamline your space. The 18th and 19th are perfect days for de-cluttering, sorting out closets, recycling and implementing new storage systems. Virgo is detail-oriented, so plan to do any tedious tasks then. You’ll be much more inclined to do a thorough job.

Active Mars in Aries from April 2 to May 11 gives you energy to tackle big projects. This physical influence motivates you to attack large-scale landscape or outdoor projects. If your garage is overdue for a clear out, this energy is ideal for being decisive and letting things go.

The new Moon in Aries on April 3 represents the start of the astrological year, making it a prime time for getting your space organized. Aries is an active, do-it-now kind of sign, so set aside a day or two and you’ll get a lot done around the house. This is also a great time to make home improvement plans.

The full Moon on April 17 is in relationship-oriented Libra, making this an ideal environment to clear the air in friendships and romantic partnerships. Try new social and dating rituals, and be honest about what’s not working. This is a time to pay more attention to people – not stuff.
