The Sun's movement into Aries on March 20th has ushered in our springtime and the new year of the zodiac. People are still asking me about Ophiuchus and the possibility that astrology is all wrong, so in case you haven't heard the REAL story, look back in my posting in January. Bottom line: the western astrological system is based on seasons, not on the constellations' position in the sky. So Aries has started on time just like it always does.
This is an important moment. We see that the Sun, telling us the nature of the month's energetic thrust, is teamed up with Uranus, the planet of revolution. They begin at 0 degrees, and although the Sun will move forward during the month, Uranus stays all month in the early degrees, matching the powerful cardinal initiating energies of the past summer.
To have the Sun and Uranus together in Aries, even for a few days, is an explosive combination. It is full of life force, initiation, radical change, self awareness or self centeredness, the courage to be unique and different -- rebellious and strange even. We're seeing it play out in world events. It can feel scary or out of control. It is pretty much unpredictable. We're having to work overtime to stay centered in love and trust, and not get caught up in the fear.
This week, on the 30th, Mercury will go retrograde for three weeks, also in the sign of Aries. We get to review the past month's dynamic choices, experiences, events, in our personal lives or on the global stage. Aries is a 'doing' sign. You'll probably find yourself doing lots of activities you've been feeling compelled to start, perhaps impatiently as we all know that during a retrograde things don't always go as planned. Extra patience can be channeled with deep breaths and the reminder that easy does it.
The ability to stay present in the moment and make gut centered intuitive choices will be helpful in this Aries month. Trying to think too hard or plan too closely will feel frustrating and almost impossible. Some of the energy can be transmuted through exercise and strenuous physical activity, meditation, yoga, hiking and art. But underlying the energy is the burning question: How can I express my highest purpose radically now? It's time.
