Stay Flexible at Work

Stay Flexible at Work
Are you adaptable at work? Innovative? Steady-rolling? Learn how your Sun sign and its corresponding quality combine to shape your behavior at work.

The signs that are best at staying flexible at work and fitting into changing circumstances are the Mutable signs -- Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. But a world made up only of adaptable souls would hardly work well. It also needs the innovators who are the Cardinal signs -- Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn -- to come up with the new ideas and kick-start new projects. We also definitely need the Fixed signs -- Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius -- to keep things rolling along once they have started.

Each quality has its strengths, which oddly enough can turn into a downside if they are pushed too far. Mutable signs bend very well to fit in with others, but often don't quite know what they really want. Cardinal signs bubbling with initiative are great starters, but they're not such good finishers. Fixed signs have that hang-in-there factor, which is a necessity ... but they can also be stubborn.

Flexibility, or a lack of it, can also come from other planets in your birth chart. Too much Pluto means you're a control freak, terrified to loosen the reins for fear of the whole house of cards collapsing along with your reputation. Compromise to you means humiliation.

Too much Neptune means you're so spaced out that you won't notice there's a situation to adapt to. Being flexible requires you to get your feet on the ground, face facts and understand others' needs.

Too much Saturn means you're so rigid, critical or self-doubting that you won't bend without feeling aggrieved or, worse, a failure.

Too much Uranus means you're a born rebel, averse to compromise and always wanting to carve your own path. Giving in grinds you down since you feel you aren't being true to yourself.

Too much Jupiter means you're self-righteously opinionated, thinking that you know best all the time. Being flexible to you means admitting that perhaps you might just be wrong.

So how to cope when you're in a mixed workplace with constantly changing demands? Getting on with life means at times not being true to yourself. A world full of rugged individualists would be impossible. Learn to focus on your weak points, and you'll turn them into positives; build your inner confidence so that giving in every now and then isn't a total disaster to your self-esteem.

If you're a Fixed sign, you provide the underpinning of solidity that your job needs, so if you own up to disliking change, you co-workers will be more understanding. If you're a Cardinal sign, your low boredom threshold should propel you to develop more staying power. And if you're an adaptable Mutable sign, stand steadier more often and trust your own ideas.

Too much Pluto in your chart? Get over being in control all the time, and instead consider merely having influence. Sometimes even your persuasions won't work, so learn to live with it without feeling destroyed inside.

Too much Neptune? Reality can be so tiresome, but becoming better connected will allow you to fit in at work more smoothly.

Too much Saturn? Mercifully, you'll mellow and gain in self-esteem as you mature, so your brittleness will give way to more give and take.

Too much Jupiter? Like Neptunian types, you need to get your feet on the ground. Admit you aren't all knowing and that you're unable to transform the world with a magic wand. Once you begin to believe this, your basic optimism will take over.
