Talking to Strangers

Talking to Strangers
A few days ago, I woke up thinking about the need for people to talk more openly about their spiritual and intuitive leanings. I've noticed many of my clients feel isolated with their beliefs, thinking they are the only one in their family, neighborhood or workplace to be interested in metaphysics. Yet since I hear the same lament from so many, doesn't that mean there might be others -- perhaps sitting next to them in the cubicle with a secret copy of Eckhart Tolle's book in their drawer and a crystal on their keychain? Or maybe they are casually spending time with people who know almost nothing of metaphysics yet are hungry to share their thoughts and questions with someone who knows more.
An hour later, I was standing in line waiting to be seated for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The man in front of me commented on the weather, and then noticed my conference name badge and asked what I was there for. 'It's an astrology conference' I offered, never quite sure of the reaction from people who look 'regular' (not wearing crystals and tie-dye), and accustomed to the polite changing of the conversation.
'Wow!' he exclaimed. 'I've always wanted to ask someone this question that I have. I'm a Capricorn, and I've wondered if I have Capricorn qualities because I really have them, or if it's because my mother told me about them when I was little ... and so I just act this way?'
Just then the maitre d' showed up and assumed we wanted a table for two. This now-energized stranger said 'yes' with a questioning look toward me, and I followed along, a bit surprised and curious.
Over breakfast, our conversation began with the basics of how astrology works -- the signs, planets, angles and the meaning of the moment of birth. In order to explain my points more clearly and personally, I opened up my laptop to run his chart. I could feel several other planetary energies strongly in his personality and wanted to validate these to him so he could be sure of all the ways he was not Capricorn-like at all, and how his chart reflected these differences. I was also really curious about my connection with him and not surprisingly found strong astrological connections between us, as is oft the case in easy and harmonious first meetings.
I could feel some of my colleagues at the next table listening to my free mini-reading and gently judging my behavior. After all, this is a bit akin to meeting a physician in a restaurant line and having him pull out a stethoscope and begin a physical exam in between yogurt and scrambled eggs. But something about this encounter felt really right. This man had some burning questions and a deep curiosity. Additionally, he had some powerful transits about to occur, so a sense that a road map existed and that an astrologer might be able to help him navigate these times seemed like a good thing. Breakfast and the mini-lesson over, we shook hands and said good-bye.
Now here's the intuitive question, perhaps an unsolvable chicken and egg situation we find countless times in life:
Was my morning musing on the need to talk to people about metaphysical beliefs a precognition of the fact I would run into the man, gently opening me up so I would be ready to flow spontaneously and have the conversation, perhaps completing a petite karma?
Normally it would be easy to politely answer the surface question and move on, as we so often do with strangers in lines. Or, did my need to consider what to write and the thoughts of talking to strangers create the impromptu meeting, manifesting the exact situation I was pondering, a delicious example of synchronicity? You decide!
