Three Dating Mistakes That Water Signs Make (and how to avoid them)

Love has so many forms. It can be friendly and thoughtful, maternal or paternal, it can be sweet and playful -- or it can be the kind of deep feeling that makes the poets write, the crooners sing, the dancers defy gravity. That's the favorite kind for Water signs.

Talk about a soul connection. Water signs join with one another as seamlessly as the river joins the ocean. And they can flow with the rest of the zodiac on a deep level too. Are you a Water sign or do you know one? They are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

And though these great lovers of the zodiac achieve such a depth of feeling, it doesn't inoculate them from making romantic mistakes. Below are three dating “don’ts” that Water signs make.

1. Relinquishing autonomy.
Though we are all one on the spiritual plane, on the physical plane our spirit tends to inhabit just one body. It's separate from the others for a reason. It allows us to make our own way and have our own experience. However in love you might be, ultimately melding too much with others is unhealthy. Boundaries, people!
FIX: Have your own separate identity and never forget it. Keep your own friends, work, hobbies and life going, no matter who you’re dating or married to.

2. Losing composure.
Though it's great to be able to laugh and cry with the one you love, it's important to recognize the limits. When drama happens all the time, it will no longer have an impact. "Emotional intensity" mode might work to bond you with another person initially, but spending too much time there will burn a relationship out.
FIX: Keep some emotional structure around you. Go easy. Don’t feel you have to constantly share your feelings or get all heavy.

3. Saying, "Can I talk to you?"
Whatever the problem, talking is not always the answer. Besides, Water signs are so receptive to subtle communication that they will probably learn more from doing an activity with someone, playing a game or taking on a project together than they ever will conversing about feelings.
FIX: Show, don't tell. Whether it's love, bliss, joy, disappointment, frustration, longing, boredom or ecstasy, make a living example of the feeling. Your actions speak the loudest.
