The Moon takes two-and-a-half days to move through each zodiac sign, covering the whole zodiac in 28 days. Within this 28-day cycle, the Moon moves through eight different phases, from new to full back to new again.
Of these eight phases, four are considered major and four are considered minor. The four major phases are new Moon, First Quarter, full Moon and Third Quarter. The Moon actually changes shape and gains or loses light throughout her cycle, and it’s by following these shifts that you can use the magic of the Moon to help time your life.
At the new Moon, the cycle begins and seeds are planted. It’s the best time all month to start new plans, routines or projects. That way, you can enjoy watching what you begin now grow over the coming weeks. Astrologer Jan Spiller talks about the importance of new Moon wishing, so take time on these days to set intentions and announce to the cosmos what your wish list for the next month is.
The next new Moons: November 3 and December 2.
At the First Quarter, the Moon is now about half full and growing in light. It’s a time to deal with challenges and reset your course to stay on track. Energy and motivation are high, though obstacles may need to be overcome.
The next First Quarter Moons: October 11 and November 9.
At the full Moon, the Moon has reached her peak and shines her bright light over our dark nights. Insight and emotions also peak and you can easily get swept up in your feelings at this time. Every full Moon brings a chance to gain illumination or get clarity about current life issues. This is a time of using insight to help you succeed.
The next Full Moons: October 18 and November 17.
At the Third Quarter, the Moon is now only half full and beginning to lose her light. It’s time to finish up projects, finalise existing contracts and begin to think about a rest and a mini break. Tension can run high as a sense of urgency underpins life at these times.
The next Third Quarter Moons: October 26 and November 25.
