Looking ahead to see how fares the USA over this tricky economic phase it is clear that taking a realistic and longer term view makes sense.
The USA chart has Venus Jupiter Sun Mercury in Cancer, Saturn in Libra and Pluto in late Capricorn – so it will catch the transiting Saturn, Uranus, Pluto hard aspects at various stages over the next few years - which suggests the present bumpy ride won’t settle down any time soon.
Tr Saturn from this August starts picking up the hard aspect to the USA Venus which probably will be a financial setback, and will depress enthusiasm further as tr Saturn squares the USA Jupiter in Sept; and then is square the USA Sun and conjunct the USA Saturn in Nov 2010 and again into 2011. Tr Pluto is also putting pressure on that financial Venus from mid Aug to Oct this year. So short term it looks like the financial challenges will need to be faced head on. 2010 and 2011 are the years of the USA’s Saturn Return which is basically get-your-feet-on-the floor-and-get-real time.
The wild card is the USA’s fortunate Jupiter which gets the tr Pluto opposition this year and next and tr Uranus square in 2012 which will bring some lucky breaks. Though these influences could also bring either over-confidence which backfires or an attempt to throw money at a stumbling economy which again will ultimately blowback.
2011/12 on the USA chart has Solar Arc Saturn conjunct Uranus which will be a tremendous jolt – that may be less economic than a global event or impact of another country’s actions. Especially since Solar Arc Pluto squares the USA Mars in 11/12 as well which is high risk and trapped. 2013 has a continuation of the same mood as the Solar Arc Pluto is then conjunct the USA Neptune (which is natally square Mars). So basically the years from 2011 to 2013 look edgy and troubled.
Into 2012 tr Neptune in Pisces is trine the USA Venus which is gently undermining and then continues on to trine Jupiter and Sun through till 2017. This isn’t devastating more a drift and a stagnation.
The disruptive, all-systems-change tr Uranus square tr Pluto don’t get to hard aspect the USA Sun square Saturn until 2014/15 which will be times of austerity, hardship and upheaval.
As to whether America has had its SuperPower days – it is fairly difficult to establish an astrological pattern for the point at which great powers wane. Though in the case of France and Spain, once great colonial powers, it did seem pointed up by a Pluto return. The houses in a chart which are dependent on the birth time may make a difference. This is tricky since there’s no accepted birth time for the USA or indeed for other older powers. The UK which does have a start time faded badly from the end of WW11, losing its final colonies 15 years later – when tr Pluto and Solar Arc Pluto were heading into the 11th and 12th houses – so changing expectations for the future.
The USA has its Pluto Return around 2022, just after the Saturn Pluto in Capricorn years of 2019/2020 which will be difficult for the USA. Often the countries/empires which rose on one major aspect or group of aspects fall on the next. The USA started on a late Pluto in Capricorn and this is next time round.
