New Moons usher in beginnings. They provide us with an opportunity to declare a new chapter and fresh start in various realms of our lives, including our health. Each new Moon emphasizes the themes related to the sign in which it occurs. And with the next new Moon happening on the very first day of the year -- January 1, 2014 -- in determined Capricorn, this is an incredible time to really commit to new ways of living!
By addressing different realms of well-being during each new Moon, we can create a holistic and ongoing self-care approach -- one that’s in sync with the celestial cycles -- that can enhance our vitality and promote our stellar wellness.
Capricorn inspires the quality of endurance, commitment and pragmatism. It's a great time to get serious about your health, doing the work it requires to create regimens and follow through on wellness goals. Don't let Capricorn season frugality get in your way of feeling great; there are plenty of at-home exercises practices and DIY self-care products that can help you in your well-being pursuit.
The sign of Capricorn is associated with the skeletal system, joints, knees, skin, teeth and nails. As such, these are great arenas to focus upon during this new Moon.

Bone Up Your Health!
With Capricorn having a rather structured bent, and it being the sign that rules the joints and bones, focusing on flexibility as well as strength in these body arenas is a good strategy for this time. Weight-bearing exercise can help fortify our skeletal framework while gentle yoga poses can help enhance joint mobility and loosen the grip of muscles that restrict movement. If your knees are your Achilles' heel, strengthening the quadriceps muscle is thought to be supportive to the health of this important joint, as is shedding any excess weight. Consider working on flexibility not only from a physical but also mental and emotional perspective. Capricorn energy can be very rigid, so reminders about being adaptable during this time can go a long way toward overall wellbeing.
A Flair for Skin Care!
"Out with the old and in with the new" is a good axiom when it comes to keeping skin healthy, and dry brushing and exfoliating can help with this. Before you shower, gently scrub your skin. Another option would be using a body scrub product to whisk away dead skin. As frugality is enhanced during Capricorn season, you could even do a DIY version (just make to use small sugar or salt granules in the recipe as that's best for skin). Of course, moisturizing is key, so don't forget to apply lotion or oil at least once a day. And, don't get so busy working during busy Capricorn season that you forget to drink water; it's an elixir for many things -- including maintaining healthy skin.
Be Your Own Tooth Fairy
Make a fresh start when it comes to your dental health. Ring in the year with a new toothbrush. Make it a resolution to regularly floss. Start popping a pack of toothpicks in your bag -- you never know when you'll need one so that you can shine your brightest smile at that someone special. And make a note to self to call the dentist to set up a 2014 yearly visit if you've yet to do so. Finally, don’t forget that maintaining great dental health is yet another reason to ensure you're getting enough calcium and vitamin C in your diet.
