New Moons usher in beginnings. They provide us with an opportunity to declare a new chapter and fresh start in various realms of our lives, including our health. Each new Moon emphasizes the themes related to the sign in which it occurs. By addressing different realms of well-being during each of the year’s new Moons, we can create a holistic and ongoing self-care approach -- one that’s in sync with the celestial cycles -- which can enhance our vitality and promote our stellar wellness.

Scorpio is an emotional and passionate sign, one that motivates us to get to the bottom of things; therefore, the Scorpio new Moon can be a great time to investigate underlying causes that are getting in the way of our optimal well-being. With Scorpio being an emotional sign, it’s a time to dig deep into your feelings to honestly suss out what’s percolating below the surface. The sign of Scorpio is associated with the large intestines, the “nether regions” (genitals), and our sexuality. As such, these are great arenas to focus upon during this new Moon.

Clean Up Your Act
Scorpio likes to root out impurities, removing obstructions that stand in the way of deep transformation. This, combined with it being an all-or-nothing time of deep resolve and endurance, can make it a great period for committing to a detox diet, inspiring regeneration on very deep levels. As detox diets run the gamut, you can choose one that works best for you -- whether it be a one-day juice fast to several weeks of avoiding suspected food allergens. Support your cleansing by adopting other self-care rituals, such as dry skin brushing, saunas or mud masks. Of course, tune into what your body needs and consult with your healthcare practitioner if you have questions as to what may work -- and what won’t -- for your personal health.

Enhance Your Gut Feelings
Bolstering the health of the Scorpio-governed large intestines can have far-reaching a profound wellness effects. Not only can it support digestive well-being, but recent findings suggest that maintaining a healthy balance of intestinal flora is linked with immune health, cognitive function and reduction of inflammatory conditions. Probiotic supplements as well as fermented foods -- like sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt, and kombucha -- may be beneficial to establish and maintain optimal intestinal flora balance. Also helpful are fructo-oligosaccharides found in such foods as sunchokes, asparagus, and onions, that nourish the colon’s beneficial bacteria, helping them to thrive.

Boost Your Sex Life
Embracing our sex life in conscious ways can do wonders for our well-being. And, as a time when digging below the surface and yearning to discover a greater level of connectedness is encouraged, Scorpio season is a perfect period for focusing on this realm of our lives. Sensually fragrant essential oils like ylang ylang and jasmine can help inspire desire. Look into neo-tantra, traditional practices that honor sex as a vehicle for raising spiritual awareness. If jealousy or shame gets in your way of opening your heart to intimacy, consider, respectively, holly or basil flower essence. And, if you haven’t had a sexual health check-up with your doc in a while, make an intention to schedule an appointment soon.
