Your Date With Destiny: The Inner Planets Meet the Node

You've seen how Venus proposed to me.But is it really that straightforward: node meets girl= true love? That's a question of proportion. First, we must acknowledge not all relationships are meant to be romantic, nor Venusian ones (I know, shocker!) I study Evolutionary Astrology, which is whole person astrology and you are more than your love life (no sugar coating here - I told you this is love on the outer planets, right?). When a person arrives at your nodal threshold, for you to unwrap their gift you must be willing to see the multi-faceted person who arrives as a spiritual blessing or lesson for your journey. Only then can you embrace their purposeful role for your personal growth. Anais Nin once said, "We don't see things how they are, but as we are." I love this. And it's a useful consideration when new nodal characters sashay, rumba or two-step into the moving picture of our lives.

With this in mind, the transits of the faster moving inner planets can have the appearances of a transitory extra hanging around the set, rather than the leading lady or man. And then sometimes it seems...nothing's happening here. From a larger or 'I'm a whole person and growing perspective,' something's always happening. Here's our second point to remember: nodal transits to your chart are never isolated; they always interact with your entire person, your whole chart. For a meeting of whopping magnitude, other whopping forces (by transit, progression and solar arc) must collide to hang their shingle on that sweet little Node.

The Node always has the irresistible and peculiar element of fatedness though, and these types of characters will bring a perfume whiff of fate, eau de destiny, into our lives.

Since Sun and Moon transits move so quickly through the chart (lasting between a couple of hours to several days), they're worth noting though may not be notable. Play with them. In my experience they're more profound by transiting Progression or Solar Arc. The Sun may deliver a leader, an overpowering individual, or shining star. The Moon, a maternal figure or therapist.    

Mercury joins the Node: Messengers. Informants. Meaningful conversations. By transit this is so brief, but here's an example of how powerful even transits can be: remember Monica Lewinsky? When Linda Tripp recorded their infamous conversations in that famous betrayal of trust, transiting Mercury opposed Monica's South Node. That's Mercury, the trickster (or back-stabbing b****).

Venus joins the Node: A gift. A proposal. A flirtation, or lifelong love. A heartfelt exchange. Depending on other transits at play in the chart, this could bring a flirtation or a lifelong friend. Rock star turned first lady Carla Bruni met Nicolas Sarkozy at a dinner party in November 2007. Sources vary on the actual date of that dinner party in November, but during that final week, Venus in Libra was within orb of Carla's South Node. Following the rule of magnitude: far weightier factors were at play with Carla, including a Jupiter and Pluto transit to her Capricorn Sun! While transiting Venus can hardly lay claim to this 'stars collide' meeting, she had a starring role.

Mars joins the Node: The enemy. Your nemesis. The challenger. Are you the type of person who easily gets road rage? Watch out, karma can come around hard. Moving progressively from the inner to outer planets, it helps to think of the nodes as karmic. For example, if you died on the battlefield in a previous lifetime without avenging your arch rival, you could meet him in a martial tour de force now. If you've been stepped on, put down, or pushed too far someone may challenge you now to be more assertive or draw your battle lines.
