August 21: An Urge to Connect

August 21: An Urge to Connect

The moon enters Libra 2:16 a.m., and moon void of course ends

Early morning, the moon moves out of earthy Virgo, and into airy, sociable Libra, ending the moon void of course. The mood of the moment shifts away from feeling measured and reflective under Virgo, into a more active and outwardly focused atmosphere under Libra.

At this point, the moon is just starting to gain light again, appearing as a slim, emerging crescent in the sky. This phase highlights the awakening of lunar energies as they begin to activate and open up during the first quarter phase. With Libra’s curiosity, and an urge to connect, we begin to look outward into our relationships and romantic connections for engagement, conversation, and collaboration. Many of us will start the day by making social plans and planning meetings.

The moon is opposite Chiron at 4:27 p.m.

The day is cosmically quiet, until the moon in Libra’s opposition with Chiron in assertive Aries. This opposition brings emotional awareness into polarity with inner wounds, highlighting a need to bring these into balance.

Libra is the sign of peacekeeping, and those with prominent Libra placements in their birth charts tend to put others’ needs before their own. Aries is the sign of fierce independence, and those with prominent Aries placements may find compromise difficult. There may be a story here for some of us to explore today; are we avoiding facing the pain of our ongoing wounds, by continually tending to others? Sometimes, being helpful is a way to distract ourselves from doing our inner work. Today, we can remember that helping ourselves first can be the greatest act of love.

The moon is inconjunct Uranus at 7:36 p.m.

In the early evening, the moon in Libra forms an inconjunct angle with Uranus in Taurus. The inconjunct is an aspect of “no aspect,” meaning it’s an emphasis between two signs that have nothing elementally or modally in common in the zodiac. Libra is a cardinal air sign, while Taurus is a fixed earth sign, giving these signs very little common ground.

The principal that unifies these signs, however, is that they share Venus as a planetary ruler. We can look to Venus—currently in nurturing Cancer—for clues as to how we can maintain emotional peace despite the erratic changes and upheavals that Uranus represents. Channeling tonight’s discordant or emotionally edgy feelings into creativity or innovation may yield unexpected results.
