August 22: Indulgence and Expansion
The moon is square Venus at 1:25 a.m.
The moon is square Jupiter at 7:45 a.m.
The sun enters Virgo/Virgo season begins at 8:45 a.m.
Early Saturday morning, the moon in fair-minded Libra forms a cardinal T-square with Venus in Cancer and Jupiter in Capricorn. The light and friendly lunar mood of the moment holds in balance deeply emotive and sympathetic energies with innately grounded forces. Venus and Jupiter are the most beneficial planets in astrology, giving gifts and opportunities that support our lives and well-being. With the moon squaring Venus and then Jupiter, themes of indulgence and expansion are activated. Today feels like a turning point, a make-or-break moment where we feel the need to take in as much pleasure and enjoyment as possible while the summer days grow noticeably shorter.
An hour later, the sun makes another seasonal shift, out of regal and performative Leo, into earthy and organized Virgo. We are entering the last month of summer, the mutable, liminal days of Virgo season. While the days are still warm, there is a restless undercurrent humming in the background, reminding us to begin returning to our usual home and health routines and to prepare for fall projects or studies. Virgo season is especially potent this year, as Virgo’s ruler, Mercury, is also in Virgo. After a summer of changes, challenges, and moments of inspiration, we begin winding down and concentrating on organizing and materializing all that we want to build and accomplish.
The moon is square Pluto at 3:34 p.m.
In the late afternoon, a series of edgy lunar aspects begins that will continue into the night. First, the moon in justice-seeking Libra forms a challenging square aspect with Pluto in authoritative Capricorn, bringing the mood of the moment into friction with dark themes of transformation. The moon in Libra tries to maintain equilibrium, yet Pluto unearths hidden powers and themes of control, that must be confronted now.
The moon is opposite Mars at 8:35 p.m.
The moon is square Saturn at 9:20 p.m., and moon void of course begins
By nightfall, we have another activating cardinal T-square, which brings Mars in impulsive Aries into the mix. As the moon in peaceable Libra opposes battle-ready Mars, it also forms a difficult square aspect with stern Saturn in Capricorn. This T-square formation brings emotional discord to the late hours that could materialize in confrontations or arguments, or as inner frustrations and struggles. This cluster of lunar aspects may be quite volatile, symbolizing a breaking point. The moon void of course begins now, putting plans on pause until tomorrow.
