January 16: Mercury enters Aquarius

Clear thoughts and earthly commitments

The moon squares Jupiter at 12:45 a.m.

The lighthearted Libra moon comes into a square aspect with expansive Jupiter in sure and steady Capricorn. Both the moon and Jupiter are helpful, beneficial planets, so even though the square aspect is typically challenging and friction-causing, in this case, it’s more of an amplification of the respective planetary energies of emotion and optimism. The moon in Venus’ sign of Libra has us inclined to seek beauty and pleasure, while growth-oriented Jupiter in Capricorn may have us inclined to seek monetary gain. Adding these two together could result in some emotional purchases, extravagances, and indulgences. Perhaps we are feeling a bit rebellious today, by taking a break from our new strict 2020 budget?

Mercury enters Aquarius at 10:31 a.m.

Mercury shifts from earthy, grounded, and constructive Capricorn to airy, inquisitive, and contrarian Aquarius in the late morning. It’s a day to dispense with the conventional ways of approaching the problems of the moment, and we may find ourselves challenging what we thought we knew with fresh ideas. The messenger planet’s activity feels a bit more unbounded and radical, and change is in the air amidst our communications and strategies.

The moon squares Pluto at 10:16 p.m., and Saturn at 10:56 p.m.

The light and social Libra moon is somewhat at odds with the more dire and serious planetary forces of Pluto and Saturn in stern Capricorn tonight. Attempts to be objective, unaffected, and aloof may fail as we are reminded of some of the rather heavy responsibilities we have on our plate. The moon in Libra feels like a time to stay peaceful and equanimous, but we may find it a bit difficult to maintain an emotional even keel during this unsettling, but fortunately fleeting late-night aspect.
