July 20: Intuition and Resolve
The moon is opposite Pluto Rx at 2:04 a.m.
A new moon in Cancer at 10:33 a.m.
The moon is opposite Saturn Rx at 10:55 a.m., and moon void of course begins
A few hours after midnight, the moon in protective Cancer forms an opposition with Pluto in authoritative Capricorn. This aspect occurs just before the new moon phase is perfected, deeply drawing our awareness to the shadowy territory of the soul. Most of us will be sleeping when this opposition occurs, so its transformative resonance may take symbolic form in our dreams.
Then, in the late morning, the new moon phase in Cancer becomes exact, closing out a lunar cycle on the moon’s day. Now that eclipse season is over, we can reflect meditatively in the still point of the moon’s darkest phase. We can now integrate all that was discovered and released in the past month. This new moon is the second to occur in Cancer in two months. Two Cancer new moons in a row will double-emphasize a particular area of life that will host new beginnings and growth in the upcoming six-month span. Our emotions may be especially potent now, and our energy reserves may feel low. It’s best to use this lunar pause to rest and restore wherever possible today.
Shortly after, the magnetic dark moon in Cancer becomes especially charged when it forms a perfect opposition with Saturn in frugal Capricorn. This somewhat tense clash occurs at 28 degrees Cancer/Capricorn, so those with late degree cardinal placements in their charts may feel the effects most subjectively. The water/earth sign polarity highlights the dynamics between intuition and resolve, or protection and structure. These are two sides of the same coin and could work together to create a sense of wholeness or trigger a standoff. This opposition could symbolize a make or break moment that pushes us onto a new path. Many of us may be feeling tired and burdened during this opposition, so it’s best to honor the moon void of course phase and not make any new beginnings until later this afternoon.
The moon enters Leo at 1:16 p.m., and moon void of course ends
The sun is opposite Saturn Rx at 3:28 p.m.
Shortly after noon, the lunar mood shifts out of the watery, insular territory of Cancer, and into fiery, passionate Leo. Though the moon is still dark, and lunar energies are low, there is a noticeable uptick in optimism and enthusiasm, which corresponds with the end of the void of course phase. The rest of the afternoon may host a livelier vibe, and excellent opportunities to get back on track with our projects. In the later afternoon, some boundaries or limitations on our efforts may need to be dealt with when the sun in Cancer opposes Saturn in Capricorn.
