July 27: Beginning to Blossom
The moon is square the sun at 5:33 a.m.
Minutes before sunrise, the moon in Scorpio and Leo sun come into a perfect square aspect, marking the first lunar quarter. If we look up this evening as the moon rises, we will see a perfect half-moon in the sky. This lunar phase is the first point in the new lunar cycle, where we may start to feel the waxing moon’s powers strengthening.
Very often, we feel this first quarter as a turning point, where any hopes for change that we nurtured at the new moon phase are beginning to blossom now. Since the moon/sun square is occurring between watery Scorpio and fiery Leo, there is a catalytic push between deep intuition and courageous action that sets the new lunar cycle into motion.
Jupiter Rx is sextile Neptune Rx at 9:07 a.m.
Venus is square Neptune Rx at 10:48 a.m.
Later in the morning, the second of three major sextiles this year occurs between Jupiter in determined Capricorn and Neptune in empathic Pisces. The planet of growth and highest values blends with the planet of transcendence to emphasize collective topics of faith, belief, and spiritual awakening.
Both planets are retrograde, so this sextile may symbolize a retread into territory previously explored around February 20, when these planets last formed a sextile. The world was very different then, with the full implications of our current health crisis not fully understood. The seeds of change were, however, sown. These expansive planets come together again to show us how much has developed since earlier this year. Some boundaries have dissolved, yet others are newly created while dealing with the universal challenges that affect us.
Shortly after, Venus forms the last of three squares with Neptune from Gemini, completing a passage that began before her retrograde journey. This final square may bring us back in contact with the challenges and illusions we have encountered in the pursuits of our desires. This time, Venus is direct, and so we may navigate this somewhat nebulous and disorienting square with more self-awareness. It’s potentially a highly creative, romantic, and imaginative time that sets a mood for indulgence rather than practicality or restraint.
Mercury is square Mars at 2:46 p.m.
The moon is opposite Uranus at 3:04 p.m.
In the afternoon, Mercury in protective Cancer also revisits a previous aspect, a second square with battle-ready Mars in Aries. The first square occurred on July 8, while Mercury was retrograde, inflaming conversations with friction and disagreement. Whatever topics emphasized then are reactivated now as Mercury moves direct. The mood may be no less reactive or volatile, but there may be a possible resolution in sight. It may involve all parties seeing emotional matters from a new perspective, as the moon in intuitive Scorpio forms an opposition with Uranus in steady Taurus.
