March 16: Mercury re-enters Pisces

Mercury re-enters Pisces at 12:42 a.m.

Just after midnight, Mercury, the swift planet of communications and messages, re-enters Pisces for the last time this year, after many twists and turns through a long and winding retrograde season. The next week is the last leg of the retrograde shadow period, as Mercury gradually exits the zodiacal zone it first started backtracking in on February 16. Mercury also re-joins Neptune, the planet of transcendence and illusion here in the compassionate and spiritually focused two-fish’ sign, which only amplifies Mercury’s tendencies to drift off course in conversation and thought. As always, Mercury’s time in Pisces is one of great creativity and intuition, but not the best for crisp connections and practicality. We can take advantage of this second pass of dreamy vibes until April 11.

The moon is square the sun at 2:34 a.m.

The Sagittarian moon comes into a square aspect with the sun during the wee hours, forming the 4th and final quarter of this month’s lunar phase. This passage in the lunar cycle marks the time of steadily decreasing lunar energies as we start to finish up the work and intentions of the month, and prepare to wind down toward the reflective new moon phase. With the potent Sagittarius moon stoking our exuberance, and the sun in sensitive Pisces illuminating our receptive and intuitive capacities, it’s time to strike a balance between our outer expressions, and inner contemplations.

The moon enters Capricorn at 9:49 a.m.

The day truly gets going just as the moon shifts out of ebullient Sagittarius, and into reserved Capricorn. The last few days have been more active and livelier in our expressions so it’s time to cool down, turn inward, and ground ourselves into more a moderate and practical focus. This lunar passage into the stoic Goat’s sign is very active in and of itself today, however, forming many aspects across the sky as it advances.

Shortly after shifting signs, the moon in steady Capricorn forms a sextile with Mercury in Pisces, creating an opportunity for a soulful, yet constructive conversation. Then by evening, the moon forms an earth trine with Uranus in Taurus, setting the tone for a unique insight of emotional awareness. The importance of this insight is underscored by the moon’s conjunction with its lunar south node, triggering a moment of deep contemplation, and sobriety. This may activate a need to address a hidden part of ourselves that needs some care and healing as the moon forms a catalyzing square with Chiron in Aries shortly after.
