Before we dive into the most significant transits and astrological aspects in this very active month, we wanted to tap the insight of the tremendously talented, Tamerri Ater. “It’s off to the races in January with planets jam-packed in industrious Capricorn, including Mars, in its exaltation (strong). There are many harmonious transits for us to take advantage of in January, and Neptune’s move into Aries at the end of the month is the official start of a new era. It’s time to go after your dreams.”
All Personal Planets Direct
In recent years, we’ve often begun our year with a sluggish, nostalgic, or confusing energy due to many planetary retrogrades. While all of our planets retrograde at some point in time—not our luminaries, of course— we can feel a retrograde in three different stages: the pre-shadow (when it slows down), the retrograde phase (when it looks as if it moves backwards in the heavens), and the post-shadow (as the planet tries to regain strength). This year, all of our personal planets—Mercury, Venus, and Mars—will be strong and at peak speed in January, so we will have fewer obstacles impacting our goals and will be able to hit the ground running.
An Emphasis On Harmonious Astrological Alignments
When it comes to astrological weather, we sometimes face cosmic storms or clear skies and it is all tied to how the planets are connecting or “conversing” in the heavens above. One of my favorite things to announce is that we have an immense amount of positive planetary aspects, which promote happiness, good news, and opportunities. The key, though, is to not sit back and expect the universe to do all of the work, and instead, seize the day and be strategic about laying plans personally or professionally.
Key Moon Cycles: Full Moon in Cancer and New Moon in Capricorn
As for our key lunar cycles, we begin the month with a sentimental and sweet full moon in Cancer, emphasizing domesticity, family, home, and emotions. This is a rather joyous full moon and could bring positive news to us around these themes, as well as where it falls for each zodiac sign. Mid-month, we will be invigorated by another very positive lunar cycle—the new moon in Capricorn. This is an excellent period to assess our foundations and long-term goals for the year.
Strong Capricorn Energy To Create Foundations
In general, we will experience a great deal of Capricorn energy this month—especially the first half of the month. The sun will grant power to our goals and ambitions, and the structures in our lives, Venus will add pleasure to professional matters, and Mars will infuse us with the fire to create long-lasting results. Mercury will turn our minds to these ideas, as well. The key, though, is to be strategic, calculated, and know that whatever you choose to build—personally and professionally—requires you to be slow, steady, and plod forth carefully to end up at the top of the mountain.
The Shift into Aquarian Energies
Slowly but surely, the planets and sun all begin to turn along the celestial wheel and dive into Aquarius. This means that there will be an emphasis around all of the themes that this air sign embodies: communities, friendships, and platonic love. However, Aquarius is also the zodiac sign “of the future,” as it is ruled by Uranus, meaning that we may find growth around technology, social media, space endeavors, AI, or even astrology.
Saturn sextile Uranus
A very rare astrological aspect stands out above the rest this month, with Saturn, the planet of strength, aligning beautifully with Uranus, planet of change. Since they are smiling upon one another, this promotes positive changes to the structures and long-term goals in our lives—and on the collective global stage as well.
Neptune enters Aries
Last to note is that Neptune, the planet of spirituality, leaves behind the deep seas of Pisces once and for all in our lifetimes to venture into the high skies of Aries. This transit is very complex and will most certainly be further discussed in other articles on Astrology.com, but one of the big takeaways I want to draw attention to is a collective growth around spirituality, imagination, and beliefs becoming fierier and more passionate. This can lead us toward independence or new leadership—or cause people to clash and go to war around these themes. This is a very long transit.
As you can see, January is packed to the brim with so much activity—so it’s time to hit the ground running and build the life of your dreams!
