January 22: Judgement and Compassion

January 11, 2021

Ceres is square the lunar nodes at 2:13 a.m.

In the early morning hours, the asteroid Ceres forms an energizing square to the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius. Ceres in Pisces acts as a cosmic mother, fostering our development by demonstrating compassion, however, we should remain vigilant that we are not sucked into our own delusions in the desire for peace.

Here, at the crossroads between knowledge and facts, seek to be mindful of both the dogmas we perpetuate and the risk of self-righteous slinging of data points without fact-checking. Ceres reminds us that to evolve, we must support each other regardless of where we are in the learning process, allowing others to make mistakes without immediately reaching for the cancel button.

The moon is square Mercury at 5:59 a.m.

Around dawn, the Taurus moon creates an assertive square to Mercury in Aquarius. We mostly want to have our own way at this time, adopting a critical or superior attitude toward those who do not think or behave like us. While we can use this energy to finish projects or begin new ones, we may be rather antisocial and can alienate others by talking over them or acting above them. Be mindful that your process may be perfect for you, but has no bearing on how others will, or should, live their lives.

The moon is trine Pluto at 1:28 p.m., and moon void of course begins

In the afternoon, the Taurus moon forms a trine with Pluto in Capricorn, provoking intense feelings and psychic perception. Although we are inquisitive at this time, with our minds primed to interrogate the taboo side of human behavior, we should be respectful of the fact that not everyone will want to go to these dark places with us.

Rather than seeing their inability to go deep as suspect, aim to adopt a to-each-his-own attitude and be content with the few people (likely close acquaintances) who will join in your psychologizing. Following this, the moon begins its void of course, discouraging pushing ourselves too hard on others.

The moon enters Gemini at 11:43 p.m., and moon void of course ends

Mars is square Jupiter at 11:49 p.m.

Before midnight, the moon enters Gemini, ending its void of course. Over the next two days, our emotions are more strongly aligned with the intellect. While we’ll enjoy multitasking, our attention span may be wanting, and we are better at starting up new projects than sticking with them now. A distracted temperament could have us coming across as superficial, yet this is hardly the case; we simply seek stimulation and excitement from a variety of sources.

A few minutes later, Mars in Taurus squares off with Jupiter in Aquarius, inviting progress in moderation. Jupiter’s connection to war-like Mars can amplify aggressive attitudes or stubborn refusal to compromise, but it can also provide resources and connections that Mars will happily utilize to achieve its aims.

We should remember at this time that, although we are largely self-motivated and desirous of peace, that we can lean on the support of our communities, or on the aid of technology or invention to help us from doing things the hard way or taking the long road. Some part of us may still prefer our known, traditional methods of getting things done. But Jupiter amplifies the idea that we can accomplish more by freeing ourselves up to think differently, employing unorthodox means, or accepting others’ generosity, despite our skepticism.
