New Moon in Capricorn: Absorb That Rooted Energy

January 15, 2018

OAK

Tomorrow is the exact new moon in Capricorn, but already the moon is in that earth sign, along with the sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Pluto.

With so many planets in Capricorn, we want to capture that driven and persevering energy and use it to our benefit, rather than become overwhelmed by it.

Capricorn is solid, responsible, cautious, ambitious, and practical. Its motto could be: It is what it is. Status and success are valued, and emotions are not necessarily a part of the picture.

Today we’ll turn to a tree to help us embody the astrological energy of the day.

The oak tree is a symbol of endurance and strength, especially in physical health. This sturdy tree has particularly deep roots, which reflects the grounded nature of Capricorn. The roots go as deep as the tree is tall, creating a mirror image of inside and out. Perhaps because of this, oak trees have a long tradition of being a setting for magical gatherings.

The oak symbolically represents wealth, health, and virility. The acorns can be gathered and used as talismans in magic spells or placed on your altar or in the home to bring protection and luck.

The bark can actually be used in a tea, working to fight infections internally, and to stave off diarrhea. The bark, twigs, acorns and leaves can all be used in various poultices, tinctures, and teas, and are high in tannins, which is an antioxidant.

The easiest way to use the oak tree is to just sit under one and absorb its grounding, manifesting, powerful energy.

Grounding Elements Pro Tip: If you aren’t near any oak trees, make a cup of this earthy, organic White Oak Bark tea instead!
