Is Astrology Real?

June 11, 2021

You’ve followed your horoscope for years, but still, there’s that lingering question in your mind: Is astrology real? In short, it depends on who you ask, but since you’ve asked us, our answer is quite simple: Yes!

What Is Astrology?

Astrology is the study of the planets and stars and conducting symbolic meaning from their associated meanings and placement in the sky. One thing astrology is not is astronomy.

Astrology can be traced back to the 3rd millennium BC. Its practices show up all around the world, so it’s not just the Greek or Romans who revered this mystical form of art. Some believe the oldest form of astrological texts actually date back to Mesopotamia around 1800 BC. From there, we see the study branch out around the world—Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, Europe, China, and eventually West.

How Does Astrology Work?

It’s quite complex, and if you were to ask even the most prolific of astrologers, their answers might land somewhere near, “We’re not sure how it works, we just know that itdoeswork!” The planets and stars offer symbolic insight on the events that unfold here on Earth.

“As above, so below” is a popular, modern paraphrase from an ancient Hermetic text that many practicing astrologers and occultists live by. The sky above and the planetary connections can shed light on the types of energy we expect to manifest here on Earth.

Is Astrology a Science or a Pseudoscience?

Astrology, in some ways, can be considered a since. Did you know that Galileo and Johannes Kepler were actually astrologers? Astronomy and astrology actually used to be one practice and worked in tandem until the 17th century. Once the Age of Reason began, the two practices diverged, solidifying astronomy’s place among the sciences and declaring astrology to be a pseudoscience.

Free Will Astrology

This concept often brings up the question of free will—do we have it? Of course! The planets never make us do anything; they are simply cosmic, magical vessels that carry a specific energetic signature. When various planets align, astrologers are able to pick up on a bevy of events that could occur. There is no one specific transit that guarantees if you’re going to win the lottery or when you might get a promotion, for example. But there are various planetary connections that can signal a period of more luck and blessings entering your life.
