February Astrology Forecast: New Beginnings and Powerful Resurgence

January 25, 2024

The energy in the sky is finally starting to gain momentum after a slow start to 2024. January’s astrology kicked off the year with a Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius and Capricorn—making Mercury’s usually direct line to communication and efficiency a little frenetic.

In February, however, Mercury’s back in direct action and moving into logical and straightforward Aquarius, where Mars and Venus will soon follow. All three celestial bodies will meet Pluto in Aquarius at 0 degrees, charging the air with a need to act. (Remember: Pluto just returned to Aquarius in January, after its dip back into Capricorn. Now, in direct motion, it will remain in Aquarius until August 31st. It will take one last spin in Capricorn from September 1st through November 18th and move back into Aquarius on November 19th where it will stay until March 8, 2043.)

As astrologer Lauren Ash says, “February is a highly active point in the astrology of 2024—thanks in large part to Pluto’s move into Aquarius on January 20, 2024.”

She calls this transit a once-in-a-lifetime, but the energies will rise slowly since Pluto is a generational planet. February will give us a brief taste of how Pluto’s activation will transform over the next 20 years.

All this Aquarian energy is filling the air with palpable innovative energy. This sign lives for innovation and, most of all, change. So, you better expect some changes for the better to occur as you release the old and bring in the new. “The old systems of success aren’t working anymore,” Ash says, “And those with Aquarius energy in their chart have the chance to tap into unseen amounts of energy and power in the coming years.”

On a completely different note, the Chinese Lunar New Year is underway this month, also providing a fresh outlook on things.

Get ready for a month that finally brings movement forward, thanks to Aquarius’ bold momentum, the uplifting Chinese Lunar New Year, and also for the simple fact that there’s no retrograde-moving planets holding us back any longer.

With that in mind, here are a few notable transits coming up in February.

February 9: Aquarius New Moon

Following last month’s Capricorn new moon, the Aquarius new moon in February is bringing new perspectives around authority, control, and community. This might lead you to reconsider where you fall under current power structures and how you might want to change them. Aquarius, the rebel, enjoys asking questions, pushing the boundaries, and challenging the status quo.Of course, this intense push for change is something we’ll feel on a collective level, according to Ash, now that Pluto (planet of power) has moved into Aquarius. “As change and innovation approach, it’s natural to reflect on your place in the larger picture and how you can contribute to a better tomorrow,” Ash explains. “Where can you bring fantasy to meet reality for a brighter future?”

February 10: Lunar New Year, Year of the Dragon

In Western culture, we celebrate the turn of the new year on January 1. But in Chinese astrology, the Lunar New Year occurs on February 10. The year 2024 marks the Year of the Dragon, a sign that according to Ash, symbolizes strength, courage, power, and success. Given the power that comes with this Chinese zodiac sign, it might be the perfect time to recharge your New Year’s resolutions if you’ve been slacking already.

But there’s more to this sign than that! Ash explains, “The Dragon is the only mythical animal in the zodiac wheel, making the Year of the Dragon an auspicious time to act on your dreams!”

February 13: Mars Conjunct Pluto in Aquarius

When Mars, the planet of war, and Pluto, the planet of power, come together like this, you can only imagine the kind of power struggles, tension, and fights that can arise. This transit is likely to make us all feel a bit fed up with authority figures or unbalanced power dynamics. And you may want to push the scales in your favor. But according to Ash, it’s important not to challenge someone without a plan or an understanding of who you’re up against. “Remember that if you’re feeling charged up and ready to take action, others are likely to feel the same way. If you’re unsure of your position of power, this transit will make it clear very quickly.”

February 19: Chiron conjunct North Node in Aries

Asteroid Chiron represents our deepest wounds and insecurities. Its connection to the North Node of fate—particularly in fiery, bold Aries—can help us take action toward healing our wounds. It’s a time to listen to the unique messages that you’re getting from the Universe—ones that push you to live authentically and share your experiences. That isn’t to say this journey of self-discovery will be pleasant. Ash’s advice? “Embrace your true self by walking through the flames.”

February 28: Saturn Cazimi in Pisces

A “cazimi” occurs when a planet comes within one degree of the sun. Essentially, it’s when a planet forms a conjunction with the sun. Why is this important? According to Ash, a cazimi provides amazing possibilities. “When a planet ventures close enough to the sun to sit cazimi—or ‘in the heart’ of the sun—it’s thought to intensify the energy of all the planets involved.”

When Saturn, the planet of time and karma, sits in cazimi with the sun in Pisces, this could be the start of a long-standing new project or venture. “You’ll feel renewed energy and inspiration to share your unique perspective with others and break outside what’s expected,” says Ash.
