Year of the Fire Horse: Building Momentum & Practicing Discernment

The Year of the Fire Horse has been getting so much buzz over social media but what does it really mean? 

Fire Horse energy is fast moving. Themes include independence, creativity, energy, and stubbornness.

In the previous year, we focused on learning to let go, to release, and to embrace difficult truths. The Wood Snake Year was filled with shedding. It was a completely different dynamic. The release allowed for clarity, and clarity is needed for where we are headed this year.

We officially move into the Fire Horse year on February 17, 2026. The element of fire will bring vitality, energy, passion, and transmutation. Fire can be used to transform – how will you use this fire year to change your life? The horse brings us strength, confidence, and momentum. It’s the perfect year to make up for lost time and manifest more quickly. 

It’s important to find balance, and equally important to have clarity in which direction you want to move in. 

Impatience and impulsivity will be temperaments we must be mindful of or else the energy of the Fire Horse year can spin out of control. 

The Fire Horse year most resembles Aries energy. For Aries placements, you’ll feel an extra boost of energy to move forward, lead, and be creative. It’s much needed after a few years of confusion and identity searching. 

What else can we expect from the Year of the Fire Horse?

The last time we had a Fire Horse year was 1966 – 1967. Here are some notable events and news from that time:

• Vietnam War escalation and global anti-war protests.
• Rise of media as a driver of culture and formation of public opinion with real time reporting of the Vietnam War and civil/social protests.
• Counterculture movements pick up speed in the U.S. and Europe, laying the groundwork for the Summer of Love (1967) and long-term social transformation.
• China’s Cultural Revolution starts and causes upheaval in the country.
• The Soviet Union’s Luna 9 becomes the first spacecraft to soft land on the moon.

We are already seeing some of these past events mirrored in our current reality with social protests and wars making headlines. 

The Fire Horse year also deeply reflects the themes of the north node shifting into Aquarius and the south node into Leo later this year on July 26, 2026. 

When the north node is in Aquarius, the zeitgeist shifts to the collective wellbeing, consciousness, and connection. There will be a deep desire to form meaningful communities as the world undergoes significant societal transformation. Old, outdated systems will disintegrate, and new ones will emerge. 

To balance this change, people will focus on finding more everyday joy, living with more intention, and exploring their sexuality as a form of emotional processing and protest.
